can you post a screen capture of this on a website to show what it is doing?

Is this Vista? or XP? do you have SideBar.exe running on the right?

Have you tried Video drivers from INTEL instead of from Acer?

I use the drivers right from the factory sometimes that takes care of the problem.

Also have you done a scan for malware, spyware, virus, and any other nasty program?

That could be one of those things.

I use AVGfree, Comodo firewall, and "spybot search and destroy" to keep my system clean.

None of the above cost anything to acquire and run if it asks for payment you are in the wrong place. These are top rated donate ware and are very nice. Spybot has to be manually told to look for upgrades but the others do it automatically.

Spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/
AVG http://free.avg.com/download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition
Comodo http://www.comodo.com/

AVG is my choice for a Virus scanner and Comodo's Firewall is great. You can buy the others if you want.

Comodo has several other tools but AVG seems to have everything covered in my opionion. I just use the Internet Security product from Comodo.

Maybe. Try this, open the bios window and see if you have a full screen.

To get into the Bios start the laptop and "Immediately" start pushing the F2 key (I will hold it sometimes when it starts beeping I let it up then press and hold it again "Right" after it stops beeping) if I remember correctly I do not go in to bios often. Some bios will use F10 or DEL very few use F1. You have to get into the bios quickly I turned my fast boot off so I would have more time.

The entire screen should be across the LCD If you do not see the entire screen it is hardware, what part is the next funtion.

If the LCD is full across then its a Driver issue some where a reload may be warranted.

If at the most basic part of the system the setup menu it is not all the way across the screen then we need to consider if the LCD is bad or if the video card is bad, I think the Video card is a multifunction card so plugging in a monitor to the back may not give a good test to see if the video card is really the problem. Video cards will be a very bad problem. Mother board replacement usually.

If it is the LCD that is actually simple I bought myself a new one on EBAY for 120.00 Tax Title and Shipping. It looks scary but if you use great care it is not that bad 4 screws and some hidden snaps expose the screen inside there are 4 per side. ( I think I replaced 2 screens in a couple of units one had more then the other.)

Look at the screen while it is off with a very bright light to see if you have a crack in the screen about where the middle of the dark area would be.

If so you need a screen for sure, if not you still may need one but it is possible that it is the ribbon cable it maybe unplugged on one end of the connector on the "In side" or broken. Yeah it is scary to take these apart I try hard not to but find that I have to do it. (My Job).

Now it is possible to affect just part of the lines that feed the screen unlike an external monitor that uses 15 pins most signal and ground. LCD is always connected and the ribbon can have alot of lines to control the screen with a few grounds in the middle, but that is where it gets hard to tell.

Try the above steps and lets see what happens. If you can, try the external monitor for giggles to see what happens (I think it will work fine on the external honestly and that the functionality is like a dual card system meaning the cards are not same so one can be bad and the other ok.) use the Fn in combination with the F6 to change from the LCD to the external monitor or both function.

How do i adjust the contrast on my acer aspire 5738z laptop

@tonymclau330

Try the following:

For Windows Vista / 7
1. Press the Fn+Left Arrow Key for brightness down and Fn+Right Arrow Key for brightness up (the Fn key is located at the left side of the space bar)
2. If that won't work, go to Start > type Power Options and click on the Power options icon.

3. Adjust the screen brightness bar below.

The icons that were at the bottom Windows desktop have migrated to the LH side of the screen. How do I undo this?

If this is an xp, you need to first unlock the task bar. Right click on the task bar, click properties, and uncheck Lock The Task Bar. If it is already unchecked, all you need to do is drag the entire task bar back to where you want it by holding the left button, then release when the taskbar is where you want it to be.

Dull screen

along the bottom row of keys there should be one lable function, along the top row (usually the F- keys) there will be one that looks like a star and another one that looks like a black star, hold the function key down, click on the whiter star and the screen should get brighter.

Black screen on the right side of my acer 5630

You need to give me a few more details,is the screen blurry on one side, and brighter on the other?,two, are you using a some special graphics software that might not be ment for your computer, you should plug a monitor into your laptop to see if it gives the same affects, and press the window or function key, and one of the monitor symbols on your keyboard at the same time(,they are coloured the same as the function key),to change your main screen to a plug n play one,if the screen comes up with the same affects then it is a software problem, you might have to uninstall the software that is causing the problem,or two if is comes up perfectly, then it might be a hardware problem, you might have to bring your laptop to a pc mechanic to be degaussed, this puts a charge on your laptop screen and it costs more to do than replace one, most plug and play monitors can degauss them selves, others need to be done manually, unfortunately laptop screens have to be taken apart to be degaussed,i know its silly.if its not blurry then it cant be hardware problem.its one of your graphics settings.

5630 OrbiCam

For some reason, moving all of your photos into a new folder leaving the old one empty can fix the orbicam, heavens knows why. if that doesn't work, try reinstalling the webcam sofware as follows: (actually, first go to control panel, then check out device manager to see if you have any nasty big checks. If imaging devices has a big check, try reinstalling the driver there. If that doesn't fixya, click on Start, thten Acer Empowering Technology, then Acer E-Recovery, and choose Restore Apps and Drivers at the bottom of Restore tab. It will extract; then click Install for Vista or (XP) on the left - click Drivers - Camera or CCD - on the right side of the screen for your model which you saw in device manager. Please let me know if that doesnt do the trick.
