Question about Washing Machines

Washer will run with hot water only ( amana heavey duty washer)

Checked hoses and are fine. Replaced the valve on the back of the washer for $35 dollars and that didn't work. If we put it on hot water it runs fine but the minute we change to cold, it shuts off.

What if you swap the hot and cold lines on the back of the washer? Does the problem remain the same? Only you get cold water OK but not hot? The test I suggested is to verify if the inlet valve for both hot abd cold are operating and by switching the hoses, the problem should switch with them if the inlet valve is not opening when it is supposed to, Please provide details on the make and model of your washer so I can look at the control circuitry to determine how the inlet valves are operated.
Regards,
Rick

Good day,
The washer has a dual valve, Hot and cold. The cold side has failed. Valve needs to be replaced. Very common problem.
Before changing, turn off cold water supply, remove cold water hose at the machines valve, and turn on to check for proper pressure.

Have a Kenmore 500, top-loading washer-The hot/cold water does not work correctly. Often, it washes it cold, and rinses in hot which is the opposite of what I want it to do. It seems to be realted to the...

It could be as simple as having the water supply hoses switched, that is, the cold and hot water hoses are connected to the opposite inlet connections on the washer.

You can check for this by feeling each hose and seeing which one is getting warm and trace it from the water supply valves to the washer and see if that's the issue.

It the hoses are connected to the proper washer inlets and they are connected to the correct water supply valves, it would appear that the water inlet valve on the washer is faulty and should be replaced.

With the complete model number for your washer, you can locate the replacement part at www.searspartsdirect.com and order one online as well, if you wish.

The site will provide you with a line drawing and parts list for your washer and the replacement is straight forward and simple for most people to do themselves. Just unplug the washer from the electric outlet and turn off the water supply valves and disconnect the hoses at the washer. Now remove the back panel of the washer and you should be able to get at the water valve.

Remove the screw(s) that hold the valve onto the washer cabinet and you can get at the wiring plug that controls the valve. Just swap it out and connect the plug and re-mount the valve to the washer and put the back on, connect the hoses, (make sure to get them on the right location HOT / COLD) and plug in the washer and turn the water back on and you should be all set!

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Does this washer even have a hot water cycle? There is a hot water hose going in and it is turned on......but how do Iget a hot wash?

If the hot water is not working, then check the water inlet valve. Unplug the machine and turn off the water. Remove the water supply hoses and check the small metal screens inside the valve. Pay particular attention to the hot water side. Make sure the screens are clear of rust or debris. Check the solenoids using a multimeter or ohmmeter and check for continuity. A lack of continuity will mean a bad solenoid and the assembly will have to be replaced. I'll attach a photo for reference. Really sorry for your trouble and I hope this helped. Best wishes.

No cold water, only hot

The cold water inlet line is either clogged (it has a filter screen in it) or the cold-water solenoid valve is malfunctioning.

Remove cold water line, check for obstruction -- if no success, inspect electrical connections on solenoid valve (where the cold water line attaches to the back of the machine). If valve is getting current, take it apart and clean it. If that doesn't work, replace the solenoid valve.

Hot water just trickles in both of my Kenmore top loader washers

Try reversing hot for cold hoses and see what happens. That will test your valves, hot water pressure, etc. As far as I know, the valve screens are right where the hoses hook up.

HOT WATER WON'T FILL TUB

most inlet water hoses have screens in them.  You could remove the hose from the back of the washer and see if there is water flow.   If there isn't, the hot water valve assembly is defective.  These are solenoid operated valves that admit water into the tub.  They can be accessed behind the washer after you remove the back.

Kenmore Elite washing machine will not fill as fast as usual.

You will need to get behind the washer, turn the water off, disconnect the hose from the washer, look for a screen inside the water valve, hopefully there is one that you can clean if necessary. I always put the hose over in the washer and turn the water on to check the flow.

If the screens on both hot and cold are clear, water flow is good on both hot and cold, connect the water back to the washer. If the flow is still slow then the problem is inside the valve. The valve will have to be replaced.

Amana washer has no hot water - cold works fine

There is a solenoid control valve on all washing machines, located where the water hoses enter the machine. If you have a rubber mallet, you can whack the machine gently with the mallet. If the problem is resolved, it was just a stuck valve. If not, then you likely will need to replace the whole solenoid valve control. Typically there are controls for each water supply.
