Toshiba P20 video chip broken

If your friend is REALLY REALLY good with soldering circuit boards, it is possible to replace just the chip.

As far as getting the chip, have fun. You can try to contact nvidia and explain the situation and see if they can get you the chip special ordered, but I wouldn't count on it. There may be so rare dealer out there that may have a new chip but as far as I know, you aren't going to find one. I guess the other option is that you could contact different circuit repair and computer repair shops to see if they have any ties to someone who can get you this chip.

Here's my honest opinion though. For the time, effort, and money that you would have to put into finding, ordering, and replacing the chip (which I may add, this is an extremely unrecommended process, because one little mistake could fry the motherboard for good or the whole computer) you will probably be better off just getting a new board. This would be about the only way to obtain the chip anyway and it would be pointless to take it off and stick it on another.

Basically it comes down to this. It is probable that it can work. I would recommend getting a new board.
