Got a great portable pc with two year waranty. Main board was changed once halfway under waranty which is expired by now and same problem appear just few months after waranty: main board ( K000014060 ) must be replaced to run pc wrote the dealer.
I heard that nvidia geforce fx go 5700 chip could be replaced only, to avoid my expenses. But this chip is nowhere to buy, while a friend radioamateur is capable to replace it, if i provide him a new chip.
Can this be true, can the chip be resolderd on main board?
And who can provide this older type chip?

Re: toshiba P20 video chip broken
If your friend is REALLY REALLY good with soldering circuit boards, it is possible to replace just the chip.
As far as getting the chip, have fun. You can try to contact nvidia and explain the situation and see if they can get you the chip special ordered, but I wouldn't count on it. There may be so rare dealer out there that may have a new chip but as far as I know, you aren't going to find one. I guess the other option is that you could contact different circuit repair and computer repair shops to see if they have any ties to someone who can get you this chip.
Here's my honest opinion though. For the time, effort, and money that you would have to put into finding, ordering, and replacing the chip (which I may add, this is an extremely unrecommended process, because one little mistake could fry the motherboard for good or the whole computer) you will probably be better off just getting a new board. This would be about the only way to obtain the chip anyway and it would be pointless to take it off and stick it on another.
Basically it comes down to this. It is probable that it can work. I would recommend getting a new board.

i got the exact same problem then checked all the connections and the few jumpers i had, replaced battery, tried to get video , no onboard video, put in video card, got video once, still no beeps, retried to set up hd and install windows...then everything went at once, no beeps...never again...this was installed in a net pc with 1.5 gb memmory, board, no beeps, tried reinstalling chip and fan, power supply, checked all jumpers and wiring,,,all i can do i s replace motherboard i guess, must have shorted somewhere or kilt bios / cmos...
if you go into safe mode (F8) on boot-up, does the graphics show up?? If so, it's the graphics board/chip on the MB. I have one and have the same problem - no amount of loading drivers, re-install BIOS, etc. would help. sometimes it works, but most times when you start up, shows the Toshiba logo, and once windows starts, goes to a black screen.
You'll just need to troubleshoot a little.
1: Try the monitor itself on a second PC.
2:If it doesn't work you've found your failing component.
3: If it does work try the PC<-->monitor cable on another PC.
4: See step 2.
5: If that also works, your graphics card is the only thing left. Take it out and put it in another PC.
6: Repeat step 2.
7: One of the components I listed should be the broken one. Of it isn't please post back here.
I hope this helps,
swap monitors if monitor is same dell brand then its the monitor. otherwise you can buy a Video card PROVIDED that you can disable from setup the MOBO video card, and install drivers, also speaking of drivers try uninstalling the video and monitor drivers first !! the do mon swap, finally new vid card .
funky things can happen to drivers, esp improper shutting down windows like flip a power switch or not having a UPS and computer shuts down during a power outage or storm. seen this happen as well.
