Question about Denon AVR-1706 Receiver

No system setup menu on screen

I have bought a DENON AVR 1706. There are 2 things I don't understand. When I am using system setup I can't get the menu to appear on my plasmascreen. I have a DENON DVD 1730 connected with component video to the DENON AVR 1706 component video dvd/vdp in. My plasma screen is connected to DENON AVR 1706 component video monitor out. So when I am using my DVD the picture comes out fine on my plasmascreen. I don't understand why I can't get system meny to appear there too. I have also tried connecting my plasma to the composit and svhs on the DENON AVR 1706 monitor out , and of course changed the plasma settings to svhs and composit...but still no signal when I am in system setup or pressing on screen display on my remote. And then I have another problem. When I connect my Nintendo Gamecube to the front V.AUX INPUT and change source to v.aux on the AVR-1706 I only get sound but no picture on my plasmascreen. Are not the composit signal from the gamecube supposed to be processed and come out via the component video just like the dvd I have plugged in ? Do you think there might be a fault with my AVR 1706 or am I overlooking something. I have been told that the AVR 1706 cant process signals from v.aux input in that way, but that is not what the manual says if I understand the manual correctly. And even if so it doesen't explain why I can't get system menu to appear on my screen. I would be greatful for some ideas as to what might be wrong. Thank You .....Romeo Livaja

How to hook up a denon avr -1706 receiver to a lg smart tv

When connecting your AVR-1706 to your LG TV, you will most likely be limited by the connections on your AVR-1706 as it does not have any HDMI capability.

In this case, depending on your LG TV, you would get the best video performance by using the component video connections from your TV to the Receiver. These are the one labeled Y, Pb, and Pr. These are special cables and you will need 2 sets if you want to run video out of your TV (perhaps you are using the internal tuner). Refer to page 6 of your AVR manual for the TV video inputs. Please note you will only use one type of input such as Component, S Video or Composite (descending order of performance). You must connect the Video Out from your AVR to the back of the TV's Video In as shown on page 6 as a minimum to get signals from devices other than the TV.

On page 12 of your AVR manual you can see the connections for TV outputs including the audio connections to the AVR. In the case of audio, you can either use Optical Digital (Toslink) out from the TV or coaxial (RCA) cables: Again in descending order of performance.

If you don't have the AVR-1706 manual handy, you can see it at the following link:

How to connect Denon avr 1804 connecting to roku hd

I connected by Roku to a Denon 1804 Receiver this way:- I plugged the cable that came with the Roku into VCR2 input jack of the Denon. (I used VCR2 because it was available).- Using the remote from the Denon, I made sure the slide switch was on "Audio." (See page 20 of Denon Manual).- I pressed pressed the System Setup button- *System Setup appears in display of Denon- Using the cursor buttons I scrolled to menu Digital in Assignment- I set Menu item 16 Coaxial to VCR2 since that was the input jack I used for the Roku. - After making the selection press the CH Select Enter button to save- To exit the System Setup press the System Setup button again- When using the Roku, select the input source as VCR2 (or whatever jack you used). You should now have sound through the Denon. The most important step is to read the Denon manual starting on page 20

I can't get a menu screen up on my Denon AVR 2803.

Did someone turn the OSD off on the menu? You might try a reset of the receiver. This would be in your manual.

RE: Denon AVR 3300 - I cannot get the system setup menu to display on Phillips P50PFP5332D tv screen? All connected components work and sound great, but I cannot see Denon's Setup menu on tv to a

I understand, it's something I've misunderstood on my denon avr-790 as well when connected to a samsung 8000 series led tv.
The answer isn't in the receiver's settings (you can be on whatever source you want on the receiver end when toggling the menu). You need to toggle through the tv's sources to find the menu (usually found on hdmi 1). I've spent towards an hour recently troubleshooting only to find that it was the tv's source that wasn't set properly and I was trying to change the receiver's settings instead of the tv's source.
Hope that helps!

How do I connect my computer to denon avr-1706

Depends on your computer's sound capabilities. At a minimum you could use its analog headphone and microphone jacks as Output and Input, respectively and run them to a Tape loop on the receiver.

If you have compatible digital audio ports on your PC, conenct them to their respective corresponding outs and ins on the Receiver.

My denon avr-1706 is going into protection mode immediately after turning on. whats the problem?

You either have an overloaded output or a shorted powersupply. If you have verified that your connections are not the cause then the problem is internal and will require service from a trained technician. Switching power supplies are notorious for going bad. Two of the main components are the FETs used for switching and the PWM generator.
