Question about Magellan RoadMate 700 GPS Receiver

Resetting User Preferences on GPS

I have resently purchased this unit from a previous owner and would like to know how do I go about clearing up his/her user information. I live in another state and when I do a search or anything it will pull up information from Texas and California where the previous owner must have lived. Basically how do I reset/clean out this unit so I can basically use it as if I just freshly bought it out the store and took it home. Please help and thank you :).

Canada, When your 700 initially boots up to the user menu, press the zoom out key "-" and the repeat button (on top of the unit). This will bring you to another menu. Scroll down until you see reset user data or something along those lines. There's one that resets the "gps user data" and then there's the other one that you want to use. After you select reset user data, your unit will clear out all memory (from users preferences anyway) and will automatically shutdown. Fire it up after this happens and this should fixya. -Daniel

Hi there,
Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

Here's a link to this great service

Good luck!

I just bought a tom tom go from a previous owner and i dont know how to change the log in or how to create a new account so i can use it. HELP!

You can't because tom tom links the user name to the GPS unit so you should contact the previous owner.

Owners manuel for Navman MY50T

Hi Raymond,

You can download a free copy of your owner's manual on this page:
gps-devices/user-guides/">http://www.navman.com.au/car-gps-devices/user-guides/

If you need to update your maps, check this site for downloading instructions and downloadable ISO files for installing the more current maps. They may or may not be free, depending on your previous map purchases. They also sell the upgrade software, but its a little pricey. They are located in Australia.

Upgrading Maps with Instructions:

I hope this gives you the info you need. Let me know if I can be of further assistance. Thanks.

Regards, Bill

I bought my garmin that has a previous owners password how do i change the password or get rid of it all together

I've been trawling for unanswered questions; this information may be too late for you (or perhaps it may help you resurrect a useless machine which you have put away) but it will certainly help others searching for advice with the same problem.

You have Garmin Lock activated on your nuvi: there are only two ways you can unlock it.

1. Enter the PIN code (but you clearly don't have it or you wouldn't be reading this).

2. Take the unit to the Security Location you chose when activating Garmin Lock: it will then unlock without the PIN code and you can then either reset the PIN or disable Garmin Lock. The Security Location should not be the owner's home address, but many owners ignore this recommendation. Many owners choose their workplace or a close friend or relatives address for this purpose. Clearly this option is not available to you in this instance unless you know the person you purchased it from.

If neither option works then your unit is useless unless you send it to Garmin with proof of purchase. Garmin charge for the service and if your maps are not up to date then it's really a waste of money as the investment would be better spent on a new unit with current mapping.

I hope that you manage to either fix your problem using my advice or at least can decide whether to abandon the unit and buy another.

How can i unlock my garmin nuvi 200. what steps do i have to do to access my garmin.i bought my garmin from a friend who got it at a pawnshop.and its asking me for a pin that i do not have.can you help me?

Since you bought the device used, it's likely the previous owner did not clear the passwords and data. Short of tracking down the previous owner, there is no way to unlock the unit without doing a factory reset. Here's a guide to reset the Garmin GPS units to their original factory settings.

Set it back to Your preferences and You’re done. Hard reset is suggested after software updates. In my case it heals all self shutdown problems in my Edge 705 GPS.

I have a nuvi 205w I bought it used and reset it now I need to enter a pin number I don't know.

Hi,
Have you tried clearing the user settings which is slightly different to resetting the unit?
I'm assuming that because you havnt got past the password screen yet you dont have any of your own settings on there yet?
Try this:
Hold your finger on the lower-right of the Nuvi screen while you turn the unit on.
Keep your finger pressed until the pop-up screen appears.
Touch YES to clear all user data.
** All original settings will be restored **
*** Any user items that you have saved will be erased ***
I hope that helps..
Mike

Won't pick up satellites

It fixed my garmin Nuvi 660:
With the unit off press firmly on the upper left hand corner of the screen with the tip of your finger.

2. Press the power button. When you see the screen light up let go of the power button but continue to press on the upper left hand corner of the screen until you receive the message "Do You Really Want to Start Up In Maintenance Mode?"

3. Say Yes and then select the third Option "Clear All User Data" and then say Yes.
4. The unit will then start up and ask you to set some preferences.

5. Once the unit is on the Main Menu please sit it in a safe place outside with a clear view of the sky for about 10 minutes and let it lock on to the satellites.

Adding addresses

Have you tried resetting unit to the factory default? To get to this, press the snake button, then settings, then user settings. On the last page you will see reset to factory defaults. This will erase all info on the device as if it were new.

Garmin Street Pilot i5 Stopped working all of a sudden

Resetting Your StreetPilot
If your StreetPilot freezes (stops responding to button presses), try turning it off and then on again. If this does not help, remove the batteries and then reinsert them. Disconnect from external power, if necessary.
Clearing all User Data
If resetting does not fix your problem, you may need to clear all user data from your StreetPilot.
• IMPORTANT: zf you clear all user data, you will delete all saved locations from My Favorites I and all settings in your StreetPilot. Be sure you want to clear all user data before proceeding.
To clear all user data, press and hold down all buttons in the following order: ciJ, Wheel, Power.
Continue holding down all buttons until you see a prompt, “Do you really want to erase all user data?”
Select
Yes.
