Question about Canon i860 InkJet Photo Printer

Open Question

Canon i860 narrow print range first page

This is a goofy problem, i have had this printer for a few years, and never a problem. I noticed about a month ago that the first page of anything i print out, has the right two inches cut off. Additional pages are fine, just the first page. Because the first page a lot of times is a cover page, which usually has narrow margins, it has not been noticed nor a big problem. I assumed it might just go away, didn't. So i have been trying to fix this problem, downloaded new drivers, changed every setting possible, still can't get it to print right on the first page. does anyone have any idea what i should do. Love the printer by the way.

Does it do this from any application? Have you tried from Notepad, Wordpad, MS Word, printing an Internet page, etc? There is nothing in the driver that would apply to only the first page of a multipage document, except on the Stamp/Background tab in the driver settings window. Ensure that neither of these boxes is checked.

SOURCE: i860 won't print properly

Buying a new printhead is a mighty good suggestion, it seems you have pretty well used up the maximum service life of your printhead, if i'm not mistaken. Try to reinstall your printer along with its software. Go to settings>control panel > remove hardware> then, reboot. After, rebooting, re-install your printer software and drivers.

SOURCE: Left side of page cut off printing from Outlook 2003

Hi there,
Have you try to Copy paste the content of Outlook to Word and then try to print.

As Outlook have lesser option to set for printing. And may not possess all the features to print it correctly.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards
Ellin

SOURCE: Print Head Alignment test produces only a blank page.

Yes head probably clogged. You can try cleaning head multiple times, I think this is a pigment ink machine, so get only these carts for it

I get lines on paper when printing on canon ir3025

I had somewhat the same issue with my Canon i9900. In fact it took THREE tries before I got it working correctly. On the first printer the ink carrier would never move. Canon sent a new printer right away. It worked about a week, then everything went red. I called and also talked with the service rep. Like you, they insisted I load the goofy Easy Print software instead of printing from Photoshop. Trouble is, Easy Print only works with Jpegs. Well, anyway, I did it, and of course it made no difference. So the rep felt it was a bad print head, (which is replaceable on the i9900. They sent me out TWO new heads, I replaced it, and it did fix the problem. I have used the printer for a few years now, but just once in a while I will get some lines, or more like smudges. A cleaning cycle usually takes care of it. I still have another new head if it ever gets too bad. I don't know if the print head is replaceable on your model or not, but it might be a place to start. After deep cleaning the print heads, it will only print one page

This sounds like the print head alignment is not stabilized and may indicate you need a new print head ($$$). Try looking in the Service Manual.
A copy of the Canon i860 Service Manual is downloadable at:

Photo print quality Canon i860

You might be running low on toner or ink. In this case check out the ink/toner capacity left. it might even be a faulty cartridge if bought new, or a faulty printer, but it doesn't sound like it.

I860 not recognizing letter size

I would , personally delete the printer and re-install it...

Seems drastic, but would be really quick.

Not guaranteed to work...

Won't print on normal paper

Refer to my previous post about manual under head cleaning and follow the routine through. This will most likely get you going as sounds like classic blocked nozzles. http://www.fixya.com/support/t137335-problem_print_outs_from_printer
