Question about Dell Inspiron 1501 Notebook

Cleaning hard drive and re-installing all programs on Dell Inspir

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop on which I [foolishly]installed a program called, Windows Steady State/Windows Disk Protection/ Windows Live One Care [they all seem to conspire together]. I'd like to be rid of the lot, but can't seem to.
The problem with having these progs, is that whenever I download a new program, it is removed when i close and restart my computer. So, say, if i were to download Google Chrome as a new browser, when I close and restart the machine, it's been wiped off.
I thought that by cleaning up my drives and rebooting, that might help. Can you help? Would really appreciate a way out

Thanks to gemini_lady for her suggestion. I tried the first one to no avail, but will try your second idea.

    Thanks so much.

Do a PC Restore (this will erase your files but original programs will remain just like you got it out of the box):

For Vista
1. Shutdown.
2. Power on.
3. On the Dell Screen, keep on tapping F8.
4. Repair your computer
5. Next
6. Choose your own Windows Logon Account
7. Type your password
8. Select "Dell Factory Image Restore"

For XP:
1. Shutdown.
2. Power on.
3. On the Dell Screen, keep on tapping CTRL+F11
4. Follow screen instructions.

I have a couple of suggestions. If you have only added the new programs recently, try going into restore and restoring your laptop to a date before the one when you added the programs. If this works then it will be like you never added them.

Alternatively you could try downloading and using Revo Uninstaller. It's completely free and I have found it useful for uninstalling most awkward programs.

If this works for you, I would appreciate feedback. Thanks

So I turn on my Dell Inspiron 1526 and all that happens is the fans fun but nothing else. No hard drive lights at all. Suggestions?

Go inti the BIOS settings and see if the BIOS detects the hard drive.
If not then re-seat the hard drive to make sure it is connected properly.
If the hard drive still isn't detected, then most likely the hard drive is faulty.
In this case to get the Dell operating again, replace the hard drive, install Windows on the new hard drive plus install the Dell Inspiron 1526 device drivers and your programs.

I had new dell inspiron 1501 laptop with windows 7 os instaled in 350gb singel drive and i want to saparet two or more parteshens with out OS loss

if your hard disk is only 1 partition right now, reformatting the hard disk, then deleting the current partition and creating additional partitions is the way to do it. This means, you also have to reinstall Windows. if you do not want to reinstall Windows, look for programs like partition magic or the like that can allow you to create additional partitions, though, there are cases this may have issues later.

Dell Inspiron 1501 - tries to boot

Go into your BIOS by pressing F2 and make sure the cd drive is the first boot device. Install the operating system cd first and go thru that. Then you'll need to install the drivers and utilities disk. After that you can put the applications cd in and choose what programs you want to install off of that.

Thats the order you should install the cd's. Assuming your hard drive is good then everything should go thru. If you need more help then let me know and I'll help you as much as I can. I'll be here for a while.

When you boot up off of the operating system cd. It will say press any key to boot up off of the cd, be sure to do that so it boots up off of the cd and goes into the system setup.

New hard drive- what to do next

start with the first disc of the OS, then follow the on screen instruction,
usually default is good.
if you have a USB enclosure for the drive(cheap, less than 20$) you can also use the trial version of acronis true image to clone the hard disk to the new one and then installing it without having to reinstall anything.

Laptop blue screens when trying to reinstall vista

The problem might be with the bad sectors on a hard drive. You should run Scan Disk on a partition where you were trying to install Windows Vista.

Restoring factory settings on Dell 1501

You can run a system repair with the recovery or operating system disc to get it back to the factory settings. A repair will reset the system, and leave any of your files, pics, and programs that you've put into the machine. If you want to clear everything, and go back to the factory settings, then reformat the hard drive and install a new operating system.
