Is the hardware listed in the BIOS? When the computer first starts up hit a key to get in the BIOS (Esc, F2 or F10 are most likely). If it's not listed in the BIOS then it's likely a hardware problem. Try checking the connections to make sure it's plugged in and getting power.

If it is listed in the BIOS, it's likely a problem within Windows. Check Acer's website for known issues with the cd-rom.

He dont reconize his cd-dvd drive

Hi

Please check device manager first, Right click on my computer which you will find from either your destop or from start menu.

Select manage, on the management window, on the left side click on device manager.

Now on device manager, on the right side, look for your CD/DVD drive, do you see any ? yellow marks there?

If you do see right click on the spesific device and select properties, then write down the status message to me.

Thanks,
Ekse

DVD/CD-ROM drive missing

Problem with missing dvd-drive with Acer 5101 solved.
Problem was that depending on boot, even bios couldn?t detect dvd-drive. I
opened my laptop and found out that there were one small screw that wasn?t
connected to anywhere. I opened the screw that locks dvd-drive in to 2.5? slot. In the back of the
dvd-drive is L- shaped peace of metal. One of it?s screws were already dropped
and 2 that were left were loose. I tightened those screws, but drive back and
got my laptop working fine.

PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K17RS ATA DEVICE VISTA HOME EDITION MISSING

This tends to happen to some drives...do you leave a disc in the drive when shutting down the computer?

you will have to restart it and take out the disk, or click on the "removable drives" tab in "My Computer" and hit the right arrow

Acer Aspire 5100 no longer "sees" its cd/dvd drive- anywhere.

You can check the BIOS to see if the drive is recognized and even attempt to boot from the drive using a bootable CD to verify it is functional (if using the Windows disc - just verify it reads - DO NOT REINSTALL)

If the drive works use the following to get the drive back in Windows:

Always backup your registry before editing and use care to find exact key!
Start Registry Editor (Start, Run and type in regedit then click)

Find "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" (and "UpperFilters.bak" "LowerFilters.bak", if they exist) value under the following key in the registry, and delete it:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Quit Registry Editor.

Reboot.

NOTE: You might need to reinstall any CD recording apps you have, if they start to not work completely, after doing this.

Acer 5100 lost dvd/cd drive

Is the DVD drive listed in device manager under CD/DVD drives at all? If so, remove it and reboot. Windows might be able to re-detect and reinstall the drivers for it, but odds are the drive is bad. You can try removing the drive from the computer, and use compressed air to blow out the area where it connects to the laptop. Also check the connection on the DVD drive to make sure there isn't any physical damage, bent pins, etc.

Hope this helps - remember to rate!

CD/DVD drive not working

Go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services and make sure the "Shell hardware detection" is enabled and set to automatic.

Here's a FIX from Microsoft although you did not mention any errors.

Worth a try though if the first suggestion doesn't work.
