Maytag Fridge French Door hinge discrepancy - hard swing

Ok, this issue is more of a design flaw than anything. Regardless, I have had three (3) Maytag appointed reps look at this issue, all left scratching heads, no answer for me (the unhappy consumer). The hinges on the left and right foor are of DIFFERENT design. One is metal, and one is metal, plastic and has a teflon washer. This leaves the Right hand door to slam hard as it opens all the way. This means when it reaches it's max opened point it is a serious "jarring". Yes, It has been balanced innumerably- by myself, as well as a trained (actually 3) service techs representing Maytag. It has been checked for plumb (doors and frame are not out of whack) and hinges have been replaced. Basically Maytag has written me off after almost 1 year of my complaints. This fridge cost me over $1800 and the door opens like a train wreck. any help? Oh and the service line for maytag is terrible and obviously farmed out

Re: Maytag Fridge French Door hinge discrepancy - hard...

Vhotho, Maytag put out a service bullitin regarding this problem. This of course is for the model that is posted. The fix is to install a new right side center hinge and door stop limiting the opening to 135 degrees. They must of redesigned it. I can give you the part numbers. Black and stainless the hinge is 67006443 and the stop is 67006276. For white the hinge is 67006379 and the stop is 67006278. This bullitin came out in Feb of 2006. TDR-0057a-b. back.

Maytag fridge right door won't stay closed

it may be necessary to reset the hinge adjustment to move the door further across the opening giving the magnets a better area to hold on to . there is a slight amount of adjustment in the mounting points of the hinges. You may have to replace the door gaskets as they become hard over time and the magnets cannot work properly in the hard plastic

Doors not closing all the way

check level from back to front on fridge if good than check the amount of food that is stored on the door if u have a lot of bulk, weighty stuff they may be acting as a counter balance on the door when u close the left side the air that is trapped usually disperses into the unit and is not forceful enough to push open the door but if their is a lot of additional weight on door it makes the door easier to open and swing on hinge

French doors - when you close one side the other pops open especially when the door is closed hard

This is normal operation, the new units are very efficient and air tight so when you close one door especially hard you are forcing air into the inside that has to escape somewhere therefor it forces the door that is stationary open just enough for the air to escape,as long as the door closes back afterward you have no problem if the door opens and swings out, then you would have a leveling problem the fridge would be leaning too far to the front.

Thermador Freedom T361T70NNP - French Doors - Condensation

I have the same problem, and thermador stated there was a recall on the hinges. They are replacing the hinges to a newer stronger hinge that will pull the refrigerator doors in tighter. It took three different service companies to find the answer to this problem because I was told Thermador does not want anyone to know about this issue they have.

R/H door swings open too easily and hits counter behind door.

Hi LC,

Your fresh food lower door hinge cam assembly has failed and needs to be replaced. Not a big deal to replace, really... but you have to remove the FF door to get to it. <---which is VERY simple to do. But first thing first, right? You'll obviously need the replacement part on hand prior to the repair, so the part number is WR02X10779. You can see what it looks like here (you could also order it here if you don't have a local appliance parts retailer).

OK, now that you have the cam assy., Empty out all the goodies that you have stored in the FF door shelves. Then using a sturdy step stool, remove the upper hinge cover. Below the cover, you'll find three more screws, remove them (just so you know ahead of time... after you remove the last of the 3 screws, the door is no longer "attached" to the frame, so hold on to the door while removing the last one, OK?). Now all ya have to do is lean the door forward (from the top) and lift it off of the lower hinge/cam assembly.

Now that the door is off, all that's left to do is remove the old cam assy., install the new one and rebuild everything! Easy Breezy! You'll be in and out of this job within 20-30 minutes.

Oh yeah... one other thing. When you replace the door and are putting the top hinge back on, put all 3 screws in but don't tighten them yet. You'll need to "level" the door and THEN tighten them. Just lift the fridge door handle 'til the top of the door is level with the Freezer door, tighten the screws while holding the door in this position, deal? Cool.

Hope this helps!

Right side door keeps on swinging open

Does it have a magnetic gasket? If that has cracked and failed, it's not too hard to replace. If the door is warped out of shape, just push it back.

French Door to right swing on Fridge

Go to this link and you can see all the identical sized models with a right swing door. The hinges are the same so you could easily swap them; here's a link to the user manual if you need it; check page 7 and 8 for how to swap a door. Page 20 gives you contact details for spare parts. Hope this helps :)
