Sansa View shuts off without warning

My Sansa View 8GB has started shutting down automatically after only an hour of play, even with a full battery. I thought at first it had something to do with the cold weather, but it occurs indoors as well. Updating the firmware appears to cut down on the number of automatic shutdowns, but does not eliminate the problem.

Additionally, it is prone to lockups.

I've had the same problem but it wasn't with the battery, when it kept shutting itself down it was due to static electricty. Every time i took of my jacket and had my headphones on, I would hear a small click and then my sansa woud be turned off. I just kept it away from things that might cause some sort of electircal interference. I'm also not sure what kind of screen apperas on this lockup or shutdown but the screen goes black for me while the blue ring stays lit, and everything is discfunctional. I have to reset it each time.

I am sorry to hear that..it sounds like your battery is defective..Unfortunately the only way you can get the problem fix is to contact sandisk so they can replace the battery for you...There isnt any shop out there that will be able to replace the battery for you..I hope that helps.

My Toshiba P35-S611 shuts down without warning a short time (2 min-45 min) after it boots up. The battery isn't hot but the heat dissipation fins in the back are very hot.

Indications of laptop overheating problem:
  1. The keyboard and the bottom of your laptop are very hot when the laptop is working.
  2. The CPU fans are working all the time at maximum rotation speed and operate much louder than before.
  3. The laptop suddenly shuts down by itself without warning. When it just started, the laptop was shutting down after 1-2 hours and how it shuts down after 5-10 minutes of operation.
  4. The laptop works fine when it runs idle, but shuts down as soon as you start using any memory demanding applications (DVD player, image editing software, video editing software, etc.).

Solution:
If the CPU heatsink is not clogged with dust and lint completely, you can use canned air and just blow it inside the laptop through the openings on the bottom and on the sides. It’s nice as a precaution measure, but it might not work if your laptop already has a problem and the heatsink is completely clogged.
  1. Open the laptop case, so you can access the CPU fan and the heatsink. In some cases you can access the heatsink through the latch on the bottom of the laptop. Sometimes (for example Toshiba Satellite A70/A75) you have to open the laptop case all the way down.
  2. Carefully disconnect the fan cables on the system board and remove the fan. If the fan makes unusual sound when it spins (grinding sound), I would recommend to replace the fan.
  3. Clean the fan and the heatsink with compressed air.
  4. I would also recommend removing old thermal grease from the CPU and applying new grease for better heat conductivity.

My sansa wouldn't recharge - thought the battery was dead - replaced it - it worked for a couple of hours, then was dead again and wouldn't take a charge. Think it's fixable?

slide the switch in the on position and hold for 20 seconds , release and then flick the switch to on position and it should start.
This will happen anytime the battery runs down.
