Asus p4s533 will not boot after replacing fan + heatsink
I was getting a low cpu fan rpm speed warning, so i decided to get a new fan sink combo, installed 4 days later (delivery time). now it gives a normal post single beep, but does nothing further. i made no other changes. i tried clearing the cmos, and also took the cmos battery out for 10 minutes and that didnt solve it. is it possible that the cmos battery died during the 4 days without power to it?

Fan speed does increase for a reason.....heat. Check you BIOS settings and verify that the CPU temp is not getting too high. Desktop computers are dirt magnets. It is common for the CPU heatsink to get clogged with dust and dirt. This will reduce cooling and increase heat, eventually to the point that the fan will speed up. Get some electronic duster (canned air) and blow out the fins on the CPU heatsink. DO NOT remove the heatsink from the CPU. There is a special compound that is on the heatsink surface that allows proper heat transfer from the CPU. Removing the heatsink means that this compound is disturbed and would need replaced. Most users do not have this compound and thus should not remove the heatsink to clean. If the heatsink is so clogged that you cannot get the dirt out with canned air, you may be able to remove the fan from the heatsink, depending on the fan/heatsink design. Then you can use a brush to get into the fins to clean them.

The heat sink may be clogged with dust, which causes the CPU to overheat byreducing air circulation through the heat sink.When you replaced the CPU fan, did you put new thermal heatsink paste on the CPU/heatsink? If not then the CPU can overhest. Your computer fanmay be faulty and not spinning freely, in this case replace the fan. Check the fan and heat sink assembly and remove the dust, loosen the dust anduse a can of compressed air to clear away the dust.
the problem is that the mother board you are now using has a 4th wire that sences cpu temp this allow the heat sink fan to change speed to get this to work correctly you will need to replace the fan with a 4 wire style. what is happening is your not getting a temp siginal back to motherboard so the fan controller think it hot and send full power to fan alll the time the stock fan in hp systems is not very good any way .Get a good heat sink and fan to fit your new board ebay has them very cheap 5.00 to 20.00 this will all so increase you system temp and all get the proper cooling when you really need it.
Yes. This sounds like a fan issue. The noise often comes from bearings failing within the fan. Also, a failing bearing can make things harder on the motor as it brings the fan up to speed. This is likely the reason that you see increased warnings during the fan speed check while booting because it comes to speed more slowly as bearing wear increases.
I give this a 90% chance that your CPU fan is causing the issue. Since a decent CPU fan will cost you ~$20 online, it's not much out of your pocket if you happen to uncover another culprit.

You must have the CPU fan plugged into the CPU fan power connector or the system can not monitor the fans speed. Your PC will shut down & give you that message. (The fan must be connected to the correct power plug). If when you did replace the CPU's fan & had to remove the heat sink, which is where the fan screws into & did not clean the old thermal grease off the CPU & heatsink & replace with new thermal grease than your CPU will still overheat. If you add thermal grease over top of old thermal grease your CPU will over heat. This is all a balancing act. If any one is not correct your system will shut down. (This is better than killing the CPU). To remove old thermal grease use a clean cloth damped with house hold alcohol & use the same on the bottom of the heatsink. Please allow plenty of time for the alcohol to dry.
OC failure = over clocking failure. Make sure the CPU fan is clean, free from dirt & dust. Check CPU fan plug is connected correctly. If the CPU fan still stops after a few seconds replace the CPU fan.
It's harder to find just a fan to fit your heatsink, which sits on your CPU. It is easier to find a new heatsink \ fan combo for your Intel. Use your manual to find what Intel chip is on your board. Use that information & search google for a heatsink & fan combo. Pay close attention to how your current heatsink is mounted to the Gigabyte board.
I bought the same motherboard this past year (used) and installed it with AMD Athlon 64 fx-57, Antec P180 case, 550 w power supply. I had the case cover off to check the fans when I first fired it up. The AMD oem cpu fan hesitated at power on for a few seconds, which worried me. It started spinning normally and I then shut the system down and waited a few minutes before restarting it. It spinned up fine so I put the cover back on. I started getting the same error you mentioned, so I updated the BIOS to 1013 version. That didn't solve the problem. I ended up disabling the warning in the BIOS as I got tired of seeing it, as I could see the fans were all spinning and the CPU temperature was at about 26 to 34 on cold boot.
I recently checked on this problem and seems many others with this board have this problem. One fellow said he mailed off a question the the problem to ASUStek and they replied that it is just a glitch, that the fan is "smarter" than the BIOS, as it will hesitate to spin fully at start up if the CPU is cool. The suggestion was to disable "Q Fan Controller" in BIOS. I did and don't get that warning.
As for the yellow question marks under manage in Windows, you need to install the drivers for all of those devices, and they will be on the disk that came with the motherboard. I use the latest drivers from the ASUS site, but the only one I couldn't install was the ACPI ATK 0110 Virtual Device that came out in 2007. When I try to unpack the .rar file it says Corrupt Headers and refuses to use the driver from that file. So, I use the driver from the disk.
