Make sure you are connected to your router and everyting is turned on
open up a command prompt and type in
ipconfig /all
write down the numbers that appear beside Default gateway
open up a browser
type in the numbered sequence you just wrote down remembering the dots
you should now be attaching to your router
look through the menus for wi-fi configuration and security
you´ll need to enable security
Depending on what type of security you want choose from the list and enter a code
when finished save settings and close browser
that´s it

I just did a clean install of Windows XP and installed a wieless compact USB adapter and am connected to our wireless network but can't access the internet. Any idea why?

Most likely your DNS is not being recognized or getting through. You can do a diagnosis using IE8 and see what it comes up with. Also you can reset the works and try again to get the DNS to answer the router. If not call your internet provider and manually install the Primary DNS numbers make sure that the Network is set to auto detect. Thanks for using FixYa! John

Hello,

If the default user and password were reset try this:
There is a reset button on the router (see Image)
nancie1186.jpg

Hold for 5 seconds, this will reset the router.

The default I believe is:
admin
admin

If that does not work. try username: (leave blank) and admin as password.

I have a desktop pc and my wife had to have a laptop for her own.so a friend gave her a laptop and a router(linksys wireless,2.4ghs,802.11g)and set it up for her.then i found out that now people can get...

Yes it is possible to access your PC but not really likely. First are you in an apartment or where houses are REALLY close together? If not it is doubtful that anyone will get into your system. To test this, take your wife's laptop out to the street and see if it gets a signal and can logon.
Generally after 75 feet or 3-4 walls, you cannot get logged on because the signal is too weak. Yes, you can buy high powered antenna but unless someone is setting in your driveway then the odds are low that they can get in.
Now to insure that you are safe you need to set up your router with a password. To do that you need the manual. I need the manufacture and model # of your router. It should be on the bottom.
If this answers your question, I'd appreciate 4 thumbs. I do this for fun and do not get paid.

Can't use either Microsoft Live Mail or Lookout Express v6 with Belkin Router. Can't send or receive email Can you tell me what the email setup is for either one? Both email programs probably use the same...

Ask COMCAST for the names of their POP-server and of their MAIL-server, and configure Outlook Express to use those names.

Microsoft Live Mail is "web-based" -- all you need to do is to web-surf to their web-site, login, and click "send/receive" or click "compose" and later "send".

I am trying to set up my wireless router to my three computers but the user name and password are not working that the guy gave me i am just tryin to get hte manual to help me

Hello there
all you have to do is reset the router, you will find a small button or hole underneath or at the back of the unit, hold it in for 30 seconds and the username and password are cleared.
I do suggest however that you get the routers software disk and set your own password as your network will be unsecured and you will have set up a wifi hot spot

kind regards and please don't forget to rate us
