Have Philip x57 laptop with vista ultimate. Display is all over the play: flickering, poor colours but can plug it into a tV and the TV display is alright. Any ideas?
This flickering gets worse with time then settles down to less flickering and happens on all programs. I think the Nvidia Go 7400 processor is over heating.
Have updated nvidia drives but no difference.
Probably a hardware problem, though shows alright on TV screen. Has HDMI connector so cannot check with normal/standard monitor

A Vizio TV will flicker if there is a broken backlight, loose or faulty video cable or port, poor signal strength or incompatible display settings. Reseat all cable and connections to the television from your devices. Physically remove the cables from both the television and the device and reconnect them. If you have any of these options available please turn all of them off to see if this resolves the display flickering. lickering and shorted leds causing dark spots are both symptoms of bad leds. You can try turning down the backlight level and see if the flickering stops. The ultimate solution may be to replace the LED strips.
Before you go to drastic measures and since the TV section is fine I would check to see if the Xbox display format is set compatible with your source input. In another words make sure the resolution is set correctly or at least play around with that setting for the xbox input on the display. Just like the same thing on a computer screen if the refresh rate is set too low or the resolution is not set correctly the display will give you problems. Flat panels these days are nothing more than digital display panels being fed with TV or other signals. Therefore there are some common terms with that of a computer display. You might also try a different input on the TV as that input may have a different setting on the display.
Try plugging in an external monitor and see how the display shows on it. If the display is ok on the external then your LCD Screen is going bad. If it shows the same colors on the external monitor then your video graphics card has issues.
The problem is the pathway from the chip to the internal display. The Nvida chip has several output lines, many of which go to the external monitor but many also go to the internal display connector. I had a case recently where the screen worked fine until the customer opened the display past 90 degrees. What was actually happening was that enough presure was being applied by the internal connector to lift the mother board connector off the mother board. Apparently the factory solder job wasn't too good. We were lucky in that we used a high intensity heat source which remelted the solder on the connector. Whoever was dilligent enough to be to test your screen and cable should be able to trace the signal from the chip out.
To switch between screens try pressing the FN key and F5. You should not have to restart you computer. As for the TV error "invalad signal" you might have to change the screen resolution on you computer. You might have to try a few different resolution before you find one your tv accepts.
