Hi,
Can you please be more specific as to the nature of your problem? Does the LED (light) on the front of the CD illuminate when you place a CD in the try? Can you hear the motor running? Does it not eject or open when you depress the button?
Do you know what brand/model the CD-ROM is? Sony, Toshiba, Samsung, etc?

What is your overall configuration for your desktop?
Brand, Model, Serial number or Service Tag Number?

Acer Athlon x2 Cd drive won't recognize CD

If the PC will not recognise any CD, re boot the PC with your Windows system CD/DVD in the tray. If it reads the disk, the DVD unit is OK, you probably have a conflict somewhere in the drivers.
Go to Control panel, Device manager, double click on DVD/CD-ROM drive, select the DVD drive, doulbe click and from the menu select Driver. Select Uninstall driver and reboot your PC.
When it boots the PC will look for a new driver and place it where there is no conflict.
Hope that helps.

The CD may not be bootable, but it will contain all the driver's and other applications on it for you to install. you need to first have your pc working with the windows OS. Then load the CD and follow the menus to install each driver, for each device in for your particular model Dell PC.

If you don't have the CD, then you can go to the Dell website where you can download each driver and other apps for your PC to get it to working condition.
