Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

It's the Premium 4-Port USB Hub. I have no problems using it. But, with, for example, the mouse plugged in, when my laptop starts (XP Pro SP2), the mouse won't be detected, and the light on the hub is not on, I have to re-plug it in everytime. Is it the hub or my laptop? Thanks.

On a desktop you can actually buy a usb 2.0 pci card that goes inside the computer in one of the pci slots. 2.0 is the way to go because otherwise you'll be getting a message about how your device can run faster if it was plugged into a usb 2.0 port.

Bro it is a normal problem of some hardware component units, depend on its hardware manufacturer. because some of the system units need to plug first all the peripherals before you start-up using the computer unit so that it will analyse and familiarize all the peripherals attach on it during reboot mode.Bro follow this steps. 1.plug your PS/2 or USB mouse connector to its port at the back of your system unit.
2. turn off or restart your system unit. 3. or turn on the system unit if you're using turn off mode. 4. wait while the hardware is on reboot mode till windows logo appears.

The connection on the rear of the hub should go to a USB connection on the laptop, not a PS/2 connection. A PS/2 to USB adapter is used to connect a PS/2 keyboard or mouse to a USB connection.

Open Run and launch regedit
Browse to the following location
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USBSTOR
In the right pane, look for an entry named Start. If you find one delete it. Your USB devices should start working immediately.
If not please report back.

One day the Belkin 7 port hub works the next day it doesn't

Your problems with the Belkin 7 port are not due to the Dell computer or the XP OS. To problem solve, select on USB port and stay with it, not the 2 top ports for your keyboard and mouse. 1. Plug in the power adapter, wiggle it about, widen the prongs, change outlets at the 120 v. end. 2. Use an simple hand magnifier and peer closely at the DC input plug and be positive that the center post and the minue side piece of metal if in firm constact with the plug. If cannot insure a firm fit, sligtly bend that tiny metal piece towards center. Option 2, use another adaptor with the precise voltage as the original and the idential pin that inserts into the module. 3. Use another or new USB connector.
This list does not imply a specific order of diagnosis. Your fundamental problem is the failure to delive DC power to the Belkin hub or to capture the hub to USB port signal. In a phrase, you gotta short somewhere.not an issue with the computer or the XP operating system. Bill Miller

To get around the problem with your USB device that exceeds the power limit of the computer's USB port. Get a powered USB hub and connect it to the computer's USB port and plug the USB device into the powered USB hub.

KVM converter

Buy a usb hub and an usb extension, so that you can have 4 or 6 free usb at the front of your computer, and you can switch devices using usb rather then the mouse converter . Using the converter on mouse and keybord make easier for the plugs to slip out, and usb is better. Note some usb modem and some other device do not support usb hubs, you have to plug them straight into the free computer plug , if you have any.
