Turn off your gps, reset using a paper clip and wait 10 seconds. Plug your gps back in and turn it on. Now, resintall anything you need to get the gps up and working. back pedal a little bit if you have to. then go onto tomtom's website, and follow the instructions to updating their maps. If you are having problems, contact the seller whom you bought this from and ask him how he downloaded UK maps. Because this is a pre-owned device, your seller is your best bet and answer to getting that device up and working again. Good luck and happy trails!

Heres the TomTom Help site i found on it http://uk.support.tomtom.com/cgi-bin/tomtom_uk.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=5169&p_created=1150209083&p_sid=QmnJx5kj&prod_lvl1=&prod_lvl2=&cat_lvl1=&p_accessibility=&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPSZwX3NvcnRfYnk9JnBfZ3JpZHNvcnQ9JnBfcm93X2NudD0yNzMsMjczJnBfcHJvZHM9JnBfY2F0cz0mcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1hbnN3ZXJzLnNlYXJjaF9mbmwmcF9wYWdlPTE*&p_li=&p_topview=1 you may want to check that over. According to what that says, You go in to Tomtom home and download a new map, Just tell it a UK Map. Also if that dosent work, try to restore your Tomtom, with the file you backed it up on. And lastly if that dosent work, i would do either 1, Contact Tomtom and have them fix it as a part of a warranty? or 2. contact the ebay seller, and instruct him what the problem is, and if he will replace it. Thanks sure hope this helps!

It sounds to me like the maps have somehow become corrupted due to the backup.
Do you have the updated map disc? i would do a full reinstall of the maps using the cd as this should fix the corruption by rebuilding all the directory structure and files.
This seems to be a common issue with the tomtom's. I have used my US tomtom over in the UK with no problems before with just a quick change in maps.

Even when you do that it doesn't really update it just updates the software so that it looks like you can update the maps but when you touch to update it just tells you, you have to get an updated map for about $100.00 US. This is bull because you pay upward of 400.00 for this GPS. Then you have to pay pay and pay out of pocket over and over again. So there should be a way to update the map without coming out of pocket every year. The really funny thing is that I got mine about 1.5 years ago and the maps were about 3 years old if not more. Now they even want money to update POI now. Which they probably charge the owner of a business to have his address and number available for the consumer that has this line of GPS available? Tom Tom should probably take a look at other brands like Garmin for instance and see why they are doing so much better in sales because there maps are better. But like any computer its always the software that make it or breaks it in this market.....

OR

you can get the updates from there web site here tom tom
select your tomtom and plug it in to pc and get the downloads for updates .

yuo may need to register your tomtom .

follow these instuctions to reinstall the software and update your maps and streets etc:

If you haven't already done so, please download and Install TomTom Home from http://www.tomtom.com/7602

If you don’t have a full backup of your TomTom yet we advise you to make one
before continuing with the steps in this email. You can make a backup by
    following the steps below:

    1. Reset your TomTom device: http://www.tomtom.com/6965 and connect
    it to your computer.

    2. Click on 'Backup and Restore -> Backup' in TomTom Home 2.0

    3. Enter a name for the backup and click [OK]

    • IMPORTANT: When the software is asking to delete parts from the backup click
    [NO]

After the backup is made you
delete the files from the root directory of the TomTom. Follow the steps below
    to do this:

    1. Reset your TomTom device: http://www.tomtom.com/6965 and connect it to your computer.

    2. Open My Computer in Windows,
or Finder in Macintosh from your desktop
and turn on your TomTom device.

    3. On your screen a new removable
    disk
appears, this is your TomTom device, click on the disk
    to open it.

    4. You will see a list of folders and a list of loose files

    5. Delete all of the loose files. IMPORTANT: The folders with their content
    must NOT be deleted.

    5. Close the window when all files are deleted by clicking on the [x].

Next we will reinstall the application via TomTom HOME.

    1. Start TomTom HOME on your computer

    • TomTom Home should automatically check for updates and prompt you to install
    them, if not:-

    2. Click on 'Update my device'. If you get the message 'No Items Available', or
there is not an application to download, click on 'Add Maps, Traffic, Voices
etc -> Items on my computer', select the application and click on 'Add'.

    3. Select the Application update.

    4. Click on 'Device -> Disconnect Device', then turn off your device when it
is done installing and disconnect it from your computer.

    5. On a PC, in the System
Tray by the computer clock, click on the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon and
disconnect the TomTom also in this way.

When switching on the device it should boot as normal again.

    Hope this helps

    regards

Try putting all your old stuff back, switch on and if everything is ok delete just the map through explorer and copy just the new map to your card don't go through home. I am pretty sure everything should then be ok. I have found if you copy an old map to a card with a new firmware it will come up with no map found but have never had it with a new map....

Here is one mre query solved :)

Today I copied the backup which I made before installing the new map to a new sd card directly via card reader, then put it into the gps, hold the start button, after five seconds, guess what?It worked!!!Then I did the same thing to the original tomtom sd card,no problem either ever since! There's only one small problem when I first deplug the gps to the computer after the backup was copied, the gps just couldn't be turned off, actually it starts automatically right after I turned it off,I then switched the sd card and problem solved.
My god,I was so excited...after being so desperate though, cuz I started believing it'd be never possible to reach tomtom custom service...
Thank you so much guys!!!really appreciated!!! ......... I HOPE THIS WLD WORK, unless hard reset. I will let u knw hw to reset it :) I hope i have answered ur question. If ur satisfied, u may select "Fixya" as this is the only way i wld be paid for my services. Take Care.

    Solution:
    1. Connect to your PC via the USB cable. Turn on the ONE LE. Select Yes to connect to your computer.

    2. If TomTom Home is running, Exit. Your unit will still be connected as a USB device. (When I say Exit, I mean to be sure the program is not running in the System Tray of the lower right corner of your screen. If it is, right-click and choose Exit).

    3. Open My Computer or Windows Explorer. Look for the mapped drive which is your TomTom. In my case, it is Drive letter I:. It will also likely have a red TomTom icon. (Make note of the drive letter for later)

    4. Right-click on this drive and choose Properties. Choose the Tools Tab on the pop up window. The first section is Error-checking (in Windows XP). Click the "Check Now..." button.

In the next pop-up, check-mark "Automatically fix file-system errors", and then click the "Start" button. Wait for this to complete. It may or may not tell you that it fixed something.

When this is finished, close all the popup windows, and also close My Computer (or Windows Explorer).

    5. In the System Tray (low-right), look for the Safely Remove Hardware icon. In Windows XP, it looks like a left-pointing green arrow above a gray rectangle. You may have to expand the System Tray with the << arrow to see this. Click it one time. Select the TomTom device by the drive letter (in my case, I, when it says "Safely remove USB mass storage device - drive I:.
Once it says it is Safe to Remove, then disconnect your TomTom.

    6. Turn off your TomTom. With the end of a paper clip or similar (safety pin), press down on the recessed Reset button on the bottom of your TomTom. It's a little hole just big enough for the paper clip point. You should be able to feel the "click" when you press down.

    7. Turn on your TomTom. Give it time to start up. The "No Maps Found" problem will hopefully be gone for you too.

You might have to get an update from the tom tom home website so that the unit can use the maps. The maps may be for a later update and can not be used with the old software.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, may I ask if you have tried a reset? Remove the SD memory card, there would be a pin hole within the immediate area. With a straightened paperclip, press on the hidden button. It may take some doing to actually hit the button. The power on light should blink if done right. If that does not work, try doing the same but likewise pressing on the power button. n some instances, it may be necessary to re-format the memory card and re-load the new maps. Of course it would be to your advantage to back-up all data.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

You might try this: make a folder called 2577 in the root of your sdcard. Inside that folder you add an empty file called autorun.exe. I realise that this might sound strange. So, just make a file with any editor, save it and rename it to autorun.exe. That should work.

When your tom tom comes up with the no maps found error message. There are several causes to the problem.
If you updated your map using the latest map guarantee and then get the error No maps found, make sure you install the latest version of the TomTom application.
Check for the latest application: Connect your navigation device or memory card to your computer and click Update my device in TomTom HOME to check if a new application is available.
You can check the version of your application in TomTom HOME. Connect your device and then click Manage my device and select the Items on my device tab. Expand Applications and then click More info.
Your map may require the latest version of the TomTom application.
Check for the latest application Connect your navigation device or memory card to your computer and click Update my device in TomTom HOME to check if a new application is available.
HOME may not immediately offer the latest application version when installing a downloadable map on a blank memory card. Re-connect your memory card to HOME and check for the latest application by clicking Update my device in HOME. HOME this time offers the latest application for your device. Try Installing maps on a new memory card
You can check the version of your application in TomTom HOME. Connect your device and then click Manage my device and select the Items on my device tab. Expand Applications and then click More info.
You need to also make sure all files are in the right places. Browse the content of your navigation device:
Windows XP: Click Start > My Computer and then double-click the removable drive of your device.
Windows 7 / Windows Vista: Click the Windows start button > Computer and then double-click the removable drive of your device.
Mac OS X: Double-click the desktop icon of your navigation device.
Check the following:
The map folder (e.g. Western_Europe) needs to be located in the root directory of your navigation device or memory card. This means the map folder may not be inside another folder. Before you move the map folder we recommend that you create a manual backup.
The map folder needs to contain at least the following files
cline.dat cname.dat cnode.dat faces.dat mapinfo.dat poi.dat tables.dat tmccodes.dat traffic.dat .meta (map v705 or higher will have/need this file) .meta.dct (map v705 or higher will have/need this file) .pna
If any of these files are missing restore a previously made backup or re-install your map to your device (in TomTom HOME click Add Traffic, Voices, Safety Cameras etc. > Items on my computer).

It says "no maps found"

I had the same problem before on a TomTom GO 730. The free internal memory was too small to hold the updated map so installation failed (the download to PC was OK, the message is misleading).
It's a TomTom software bug to not check on the available free memory properly before the update process is started.
My TomTom device required a new software install from scratch. Remove any excess MP3 or unused voices before you retry the update.

Need to no about updated my tom tom plus would like to no what free maps there are

1) You need to download and install TomTom Home on your PC/Laptop: see attached official TomTom link:
http://www.tomtom.com/services/service.php?id=16

2) You will then need to connect your GPS unit via the provided USB cable to your PC/Laptop withTomTom Home running and connected to the internet.

3) Your current MAP can then be updated via the 'Update' selection. Any other 'system' files will also be updated automatically using this function.

4) Using TomTom Home, you can also download free add-ons such as 'Voices' and 'Colors schemes'.

If you just bought the unit within 3 months, you can update to the latest Map free of charge using 'Latest Map Guarantee' function in TomTom Home otherwise, there are NO FREE ADDITIONAL FREE MAPS.

TomTom Go 720 map activation

No Maps Found usually means the Application on your internal memory is not the latest one, or the map did not download correctly.
Make sure when you select internal memory when updating your device on home, that you update the application as well.
V8351 should be the latest application for your device.

Upload latest western europe map v7.20 to TOMTOM 700 not possible

I have managed to solve the problem of loading a new map on my Go700 using a Mac. I discovered that Tomtom is incompatible with the Leopad operaying system, despite the protestations of the idiots at Tomtom ,so I reverted to an older Mac using Tiger.
Taking the instructions given to crinold, I tried to erase the disc on the 700 using home 1.5 - and it didn't work. So I went to disc utilities, highlighted and erased the Tomtom disc, and opened home 2,5. After being refused entry several times, like being told to load an already loaded device, I persevered, and managed, slowly, to add the map I had bought for 78 euros. T]One point oif interes is that when I bought the map, they site stated it would cost 63 pounds sterling, but switched it to euros when the invoice arrived. at a rate very favourable to Tomtom - funny, that.
This is sharp practice, probably illegal in many countries,, but, to be honest, dealing with the mysterious Tomtom company is so frustrating, that I don't have the time or inclination to fight them for the money they cheated from me.
How they survive with such an awful product and extremely bad after sales service is hard to understand - perhaps they won't ... we live in hope.

No maps found on tom tom one new edition

this problem just happened to me. i'd just bought my new tomtom one and tested it on the journey home. all was well and i was really impressed. that was until I got it home and went to update it to get the latest maps for my area. I installed all the software as instructed by the on screen prompts and downloaded the latest updates. i then went to turn the device on, and was greeted by a message stating ''no maps found!''

after almost two hours of complete frustration, i then tried probably the easiest solution anyone could think of:

First of all, connect the device to your computer and close down tom tom home. (making sure it isn't even open in the system tray).

Now, open my computer and find the device. it will be labelled as a storage device (mine was drive G). Open it up and find where the maps are saved to. Something like, UK and Ireland, or something similar relating the place you live. Once located, delete them manually.

Now, reopen tomtom home and go to tools. Click ''use latest map guarantee''. It will then download the maps again and install them onto the device.

Next disconnect using the option 'disconnect device'' from the device menu.

Finally turn on your tom tom if it doesn't automatically, and you should be back in business. This worked for me, after trying numerous way more complicated solutions I found in various forums.

Hope it works for you too!
xx
