I have 5kW generators that produce -48V DC. The problem is that unless your generator is designed to produce -48V DC it would be difficult to retrofit an existing AC voltage output with a DC output.

Read the instruction manual. If you are certain you did everything right and the generator does not behave as intended then return it to the supplier as faulty.

Why wont my generator generate power?

You need to provide more details than that. I assume that the engine is running. If so and there is not power output which you will have to check for there are a multitude of possible reasons. You could start by a visual check of wiring and connections. I also assume it is a permanent magnet alternator type and not an excited filed type which is an entirely different state of affairs to test etc. Then find the voltage regulator which mayor may not be integral to the alternator depending on make etc. If it is a permanent magnet type of alternator it will surely be an external regulator, Check for AC voltage into it, DC Voltage out of it if it is a rectified to DC system or AC out if it is an AC system, check for a good ground from its case to the engine/frame ground. Identify the stator windings and do a static stator check on it. If the stator and regulator check out good in a permanent magnet type of alternator you probably have simple wiring issues.

Coleman 3500 with subaru engine no power to outlets

Hello there.
I'm assuming that engine runs fine. if there's no power output then the AVR or carbon brushes are dead. remove the back cover of the alternator very carefully and look at the center to find the rotor rings and check if the plastic brush holder hasn't melt or heat deformed and make sure the brushes make good contact against the rotor rings. if everything's fine then the AVR is dead. The AVR is a crescent shaped plastic container similar to this one.

replace it with any similar found on Ebay, just make sure that connectors and cables are similar in shape and number. Regards

I would say, yes (given everything bolts up okay), but I wouldn't connect a full 5000-watt load to it.
