Hi! I have bought a kingston 2GB pen drive for my system but unfortunately it is not working on it since the win98 does not have pre installed generic drivers. Can you help me with this............... I have tried to install some generic drivers for my win98 but all in vain.
you can choose which drive you have and it will tell you in the "Support Options" box if a WIN98 driver is available. Unfortunately they only support a few models these days. Hope yours is one of them.

Once your computer and operating system are up and running, then plug the USB pen drive into an empty USB slot on your laptop.
You may have to wait a few moments while your computer detects this device and automatically installs the appropriate drivers for it, which should take no more than 30 seconds or so.
Now just click on the MY COMPUTER icon on your desktop or navigate there manually.
Look in the section titled DEVICES WITH REMOVABLE STORAGE.
You should see your USB removable flash drive listed somewhere in that section. Just double click on its icon to open it up.
Now that the USB pen drive folder is open, you can just COPY and PASTE, or DRAG and DROP any document or file from your computer into that USB pen drive folder the same way you would transfer files to any other folder on your computer.
To copy files, just RIGHT mouse click on the file you want to copy, then select COPY from the drop down menu.
Then just RIGHT mouse click anywhere in the USB pen drive folder and select the PASTE option from the drop down menu.
Once all your files are copied, just close the USB pen drive folder.
Then click on the SAFELY REMOVE HARDWARE icon in the lower right hand corner of your taskbar at the bottom of the screen. Select the USB removable pen drive option and then wait for it to say that it is now safe to remove the USB pen drive.
Then just remove your USB pen drive by pulling it straight out of the computer's USB slot.
1. Your Laptop has to support booting from a PEN DRIVE. Some BIOS's may refer to your pen drive as a USB floppy or USB zip. 2. The USB flash(pen) drive must support booting from it in general. 3. The flash drive must contain the boot/system files. 4. Below is a utility from HP that you can use to make your pen drive bootable.
go here >http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp
Put in product type, family, product series, model, Operating system, Choose audio for driver type, choose your country, then download the audio driver for win98 and install it once downloaded that should fix the audio problem
As for the flash drive go to the manufacturers web site and find the win98 driver
Win98 will not auto recognize flash drives like winxp does , they require a driver for windows to find them
Best of luck
Hope this helps you
