Question about Tappan TGF320 Gas Kitchen Range

Open Question

Tappan 30-series HSI Fuse Location

Tappan 30-3457-00 range oven won't light. HSI measures 177 Ohms but when calling for ignition, there's no voltage across it. Electrical diagram shows a fuse block in series with the HSI. Where is the fuse block?

If that's not the problem, I suspect an open (electrically open) gas valve. It's not obvious to me how much of the oven I have to disassemble to get to the gas valve. How do I get to it?

SOURCE: tappan gas range oven makes a whisling sound

the gas pressure regulator can whistle sometimes. turn up the radio. (just kidding) I have had some new units that did this and replaced the regulator and it still did it! I was working as factory authorized service tech and my factory techline said it was a gas pressure thing. I was thinking it was the valve rather than regulator but tech guys said no. I don't know about that response but thats what I got.

SOURCE: Older Tappan range oven not lighting.

There is no way to light the oven manually. The gas valve will not open until the oven ignitor draws enough current. But replacing the ignitor will fix ya up.

SOURCE: oven controls

those failure codes usually mean the oven sensor is out of range or has an open circuit.
you can replace the sensor for about 50-75 bucks and that will allow the oven to heat properly again.
you wont need to do any reseting or clearing of the code, just fix the problem and that code will go away.

SOURCE: I have a series 30 Tappan Gas Range with a broiler

Either a weak ignitor or stuck valve. I tap on the valve with the plastic end of a screwdriver while it is glowing and if it lights the ignitor is weak. If not the valve is stuck and both should be replaced.

Mod# xfg374lvq stove: Both the oven and the broiler will ignite, but only stay on for a few seconds. It does not try to reignite. Is this the control module?

Most modern ovens use an electronic control board
to control the oven functions. These models will use the control board to operate the oven safety valve on a gas range or oven, and the bake and broil elements on an electric range or oven. If there is no power to the igniter circuit, or the element circuits, then you should check the control board to verify that there is power at the appropriate output relay. These are live voltage checks and should be performed by qualified persons only. If there is no output voltage then the control should be replaced.

The oven burner igniter
commonly known as the hot surface igniter is used in modern gas oven burners to open the gas valve and to ignite the gas. As the igniter draws electric current it will heat to a high temperature and glow, as well as cause the bi-metal in the oven safety valve to warp and open the valve releasing the gas to be ignited. This sequence normally takes about a minute. Igniters come in both flat and round styles and are very fragile. If the burner does not light then you should check the igniter first. If the igniter does not glow at all, then check for power to the circuit. This is a live voltage check and should be performed by a qualified person. If power is present then the igniter may be open circuit and can be checked for continuity with a multi-meter. If the igniter is glowing, but the burner is not lighting, the igniter may be weak and still be at fault because it requires a certain amount of current draw to open the valve. This check requires the use of an amp meter and should be performed by a qualified person. If the igniter is defective then it must be replaced.

The oven sensor: works with the oven control board to regulate the oven temperature. If there is an oven temperature problem, this sensor might be defective. The sensor can be tested by using an ohm meter. As temperature rises, the resistance measurement also rises. The manufacturer of the oven sensor determines the correct resistance, Oven temperature problems can be caused by other things, but this is one of the common causes.
Beware on some models now most of these ovens they are electronic and they are integrated into the control itself
some different sensor ohm readings at room temp. approx 16 ohms at room temperature and at 350?F it is 29~33 ohms.

The oven safety valve
(also called the gas valve) is the part that ensures that gas is not released until the igniter has reached the correct temperature needed to ignite the gas. While this part can fail, it is uncommon. If the hot surface igniter does not glow you should first verify that you have voltage to the circuit. This is a live voltage check and should be performed by a qualified person. If voltage is lost at the valve terminals then you should verify the continuity of the bi-metal in the valve using a multi-meter.

Tappan 32-1272-10/07056-8509-4080 gas range/oven pilot light works, main oven burner won't come on

You will need to look and see if the igniter is glowing a bright red. If it is weak, the oven will not light. Here is the igniter if you need to order it.

Also check and make sure your getting 3.2-3.6 volts AC to the valve.

Hi an welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.

If nothing lights... i.e burner or oven there are only 2 things that can cause this problem. A failed ignition module or a wiring problem. The wiring problem can be a simple short or a broken power lead. All of the stove top ignitors are in a series parallel connection and if one of the burmer control shorts you loose the stove top. With nothing is lighting oven and burners it sure points toward the ignition module or power to the module.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Kelly

Note... The ignition module itself is not cheap.

I'm trying to light my tappan oven...can't find the pilot

Your oven doesn't have a pilot,it has a flat surface igniter. If the igniter is bad or not getting the correct voltage, the safety will not allow the gas valve to open. This being said,I will say any repair involving gas is best left to a qualified tech.If its just the igniter its pretty easy to check it with a ohm meter. It should glow bright red when its calling for the oven to ignite.Hope this helps
