Simple: connect the headphones out (3.5mm jack) to the input jack of your fender (6.3 jack). By doing this you will loose one channel so you better generate a mono signal inside your computer before. Electrically this is no problem, nothing will be damaged. Turn the gain and volume knobs down and apply a signal from your Mac. Gently increase gain and volume. Et voila wonderful mono sound through a guitar amp

SOURCE: Fender Frontman 65R Solid State guitar amp.

There is a protection thermistor in the circuit to keep it from over-heating, this is why it works again when it cools. Check and make sure you are not covering any ventilation holes, or if the unit has a fan, make sure it is working.

You don't say if you are using a footswitch or not... If you are, the switch, cables and connectors are suspect.

If you are NOT using the controller, the switch contacts on the footswitch jack in the 212 are suspect as being intermittent contacts.

If the contact is not making, the OD switch on the unit will NOT work either.

These jacks, and their contacts are JUNK and often cause problems.

Open the unit and increse the tension of the contact springs.

SOURCE: Will a MP3/iPod/CD player play through a Fender

The power amp input jack takes "line level" input BUT is monaural (single channel). The output of an ipod is Stereo. Hence you would have to "mix" the two channels before connecting to the Fender. Mixing does NOT mean just tying the two channels together. A minimu thing would be a passive resistive mixer consisting of a resistor from each of the IPOD channels to the common point going to the input of the Fender. Remember if you plug into the Fender power amp input you DISCONNECT the preamp and other circuits and would ONLY hear the IPOD input.

SOURCE: Hi. Fender Frontman amp suddenly

This is a very simple unit: a power source of an linear design, a preamplifier with tone and distort control and an 10 watt integrated amplifier.
If the unit is completely dead then the fault is in the power section: cable, switch or source. To find out which you must check them all with a simple multimeter: cable and switch with an ohmmeter (the resistance should be 0 if good) and the source with a voltmeter - (check the presence of the 2 voltages (25 and 15 volt) at its outputs.
Here you can find the schematic of a very similar one

The only difference is the final amplifier chip.

Lo, i have a fender frontman 65 r, bought it 2 years ago, my problem with this amp is that it produces disturbing like thunder sound at the middle of my playing, i checked and change the cable and also...

It could be dirty interupt contacts on the jack you are plugging into. Spray some conct cleaner from the back side and plug and unplug a few times to see if that clears it up. Also spraying the controls and switches- make sure you get the spray stream into the switch or potentiometer to get on the contacts to disolve grime.

Other potential sources are poorly soldered connections on the amp chassis- litterally anywhere. Reflowing all solder connections would likely remedy the problem.

Also make sure the nuts that retain the jacks to the amp chassis are snug and will not move.

There is something resonating with that note frquency. Often the grille or wiring inside will rattle at certain frequencies. You need a sustained source of these frequencies to find what is causing the noise.

I have a Fender Frontman 15R. It doesn't work at all. No sound. I read reviews about it and none say that it does this. Is it worth fixing and what might be the common problem? Thanks, Aileen

The power amp chip has probably blown. It is a TDA2050 cost about $3. They don't even use thermal grease on these to help conduction to heat sink. Make sure you do use thermal grease when replacing. Also be careful of pluggin anything OTHER than headphones in the headphone jack. It can result in blowing the amp chip.

If I turn up the volume on my Frontman 10g more than 4-5,the amp starts buzzing every time I play the thick strings. Thank you!

You MAY be overdriving the amp. This is a tiny amp and should NOT be played louder than a typical BoomBox or the speaker may be driven too hard, going non-linear and then buzzing.

I Have the fender 212 soild state amp. When I plug my guitar in to the input. One of two things happen ethier no sound or a hum.I have had this amp in the shop .Had it returned to me and still the same...

You likely have a bad input jack. A VERY common thing with these. They don't like to work on the jack because one has to remove too much to replace it. Lazy shop! Sometimes the solder has just broken loose or the board pads damaged. Replace the jack anyway as they take a beating.

Find a shop willing to work on it properly and DON'T accept it back until it is fixed!

Another problem with amps can be the preamp output jack switch which fails to close leaving the amp dead... but it usually won't hum much when that happens.

HINT: Loop your instrument cord through the handle so when you trip and yank on the cord it won't break the input jack... saves a lot of jack repairs!
