Question about Toshiba Portege 3480CT Notebook

1 Answer

Damaged Bios Hi, I tried to start up the pc yesterday and  I got a blue screen error, turned it off and back on again and got a this display "Damaged bios, contact serviceman (or was it repairman)...serviceman - input maintanance disk." This morning it wouldn't go past the Toshiba screen, and it gives annoying beeps everytime I push enter. I hope I won't have to replace any parts.

Count the beeps. That is your error. Googling it is the easiest way. You don't mention make, model and OS so can't suggest anything.

Do you see an error message on the screen or, does it blue screen with an error message? When you boot up press F6 just as the PC drops out of BIOS mode. Select "Last Known Good Configuration". If that doesn't fix it, look up the error code on the blue screen with Google. Most blue screens are fixable. Some require a complete rebuild of your hard drive.

Installed wrong update bios for Toshiba Satellite L300D

You may have killed your laptop. BIOS have little to do with an OS like Windows, Linux, etc. The display issue is the culprit. Using another computer go to Toshiba website a get the current BIOS for your laptop. Are you able to access the BIOS at all? (press Del during bootup? to enter the Config screen (looks like DOS)

Did you install Windows 7 or is it XP, which is a discontinued operating system?

Blue screens are less prevalent and even nonexistent on Windows 7 vs. Windows XP.

Hi,
Prepare to Diagnose the Computer
Perform the following actions to prepare the computer for troubleshooting a startup problem.

1. Remove the battery and AC adapter from the notebook.
2.Remove any optical disks (CD or DVD), and disconnect any external devices or peripherals such as USB devices, printers, docking stations etc.
3.Plug the AC adapter directly into a functioning wall socket.
4.Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

NOTE:After the battery, optical media and peripherals are removed, the Notebook PC may startup normally. If this occurs see Windows starts after the battery, optical media and peripherals are removed .

Symptoms and Resolutions
When the notebook stops responding or displays an error message, let me know what symptom that most closely resembles what is seen on the Notebook PC screen.

*PC Stops responding on the Windows logo screen

* PC stops responding with a blinking cursor is displayed in the upper left corner of a black screen.
*Password is requested but password is forgotten or lost.
*Microsoft Windows starts, but a 'serious error' message is displayed that prompts you to send an error report to Microsoft for evaluation.
* Microsoft Windows starts , but the PC stops responding or restarts automatically
*Display is very dim during and after startup
*Microsoft Windows starts, but runs abnormally slow

Computer turns off and restarts again during the operation repeately.

Hi 2gerr, when you tested the board, was the board outside of the you're case?
Here is one suggestion you can try. Start the PC & press the F5 key every two seconds untill Windows Advanced Options Menu
is displayed on you're screen. You can not use you're mouse here. Use the up & down arrow keys & slide to, Disable automatic restart on system failure. Than press enter. What this should do for you is stop windows from restarting & give you time to catch what is causing windows to restart. If you receive a blue screen with an error message write it down. Press the pause key on the keyboard so you'll have time to write down the error message. It would not hurt to enter you're bios and turn off hault on all errors listed in the main menu of the bios.
Another could be the back side of the board could be touching the case. You can add a piece of a paper bag under the board.
Stopping a possible short. Lastly, enter you're bios & go the hardware monitor. Open hardware monitor & leave it there. Shut off you're monitor & walk away for about 10 minutes or so coming back from time to time & check the temp of you're CPU & mother board temp. Staying in the bios, let me know if the PC restarts.

Windows Installation gives blue screen errors.

Hi, at the boot up go into your bios [ on MSI press the delte key continuosly] and turn OFF the onboard virus protection. This can block all O/S from loading as they need to write to the bios in the installation process. Ensure you turn it back on after installation, it is there to stop hackers getting into your bios and wrecking your system. Regards mistyman
