Helo, I am desperate on finding help to this issue, really weird. I have installed USB TM-U220 printer on Vista Bussines and it seemed to work fine when I installed it. After some time, user complained to me that it sometimes stops when it is supposed to print. The only solution they came up with is that they switch the USB ports, I mean, insert the printer USB cable into other USB port on the MBO. After that, printer prints it out...
I have identical situation in other store, where I have same computer, same printer, same OS, and same driver...and it works without any mistake!!

Re: TM-U220 sometimes fails to print
Maybe the USB cable or the port on the PC or PRINTER is defective. First try a different cable, then try another open USB port to see if it works there. Also, the POWER CORD for the printer may be loose or defective, or maybe one of the printer DOOR INTERLOCKS may be intermittent, or not closed properly.

I had huge issues with my TM-U220. It does not play well with a Centronix-to-USB cable or with Windows 64-bit. I played for AGES to try and get it all to work.
I installed the USB device driver I was able to print the Test Page proving that the connection between Windows and the printer sort of worked, but when I tried printing anything from Unicenta POS, it always failed.
I finally bought a new Centronix-to-USB and a new parallel port card, used Windows 32-bit, and problem solved.
Are you using a third party USB adapter or a USB interface? On the self test page that you printed does it say USB connection or something that will say about USB? or does it say parallel or serial connection? try to check the dip switches setting if its configured properly. visit epsonexperts.com site for more info.
Good day!Did you check the cable on it?is the printer on when you test it?is the driver compatible with the vista?..you can see the documentation..or do you have many printers installed on your computer now then you forgot to set it as your default printer?..
try answering my questions maybe it can help you.. mastergani
print the self-test, push the feed botton while powering on...
you can see there the serial interface...
baud rate, data bits, parity, stop bit etc...
then go to the printer and faxes,
right click the epson driver and click properties...
go to the ports window...
click on the epson tm u220 reciept.
click configure port...
adjust the baud rate as same as in the self test...
possible issue is port configuration. if the generic text driver works, apd driver should work too.
what may be happen is that when you install the apd driver the other printer drivers that you have were still using the same port that your apd driver were using. example, you have generic txt assigned to lpt1 and then the apd were assigned on the same port, this is were you get the trouble.
what you must do is, first, check any printer driver that you have using the lpt, say for example, you generic text is using lpt1, when you install the apd driver set it to lpt2. apd drivers will create a new port normally called esdprt. try to use that port but if that will not work reassigned the port of your apd driver to lpt2 printer port then uncheck bi-directional support. from there you should be able to print..
