Can't install office 2003 program

Missing file appears 0156...cab it tells me to browse and insert cd

    I installed Office Student & Teacher Edition 2003 on my Dell laptop more than a year ago. Today I needed to create a PowerPoint presentation, but only PowerPoint Viewer is available. Several months ago, PowerPoint was there, too--but it is no where to be found on my PC. And when I put the Office CD in my drive, the mesage from Solution Center says files are not available! What happened? I had the same problem with a second copy of the Office CD.

Your CD reader cann't read the file 0156...cab, may be the CD has a little damage, the file is corrupted or the CD reader is failing.
1.- Try with another Installation CD of office 2003.
2.- If the problem continue try with another CD reader.

I have Office 2003 loaded on my PC. I would like


1. Confirm that disc is not damaged in anyway
2. Search for file
a. Start - Search
b. Change search location to CD drive that has CD/DVD
c. enter file name to missing file
3. If search finds the file copy it to desktop.
4. Try install again if it asks for missing file it should give you an opiton for you to find it if this is the case you now have a copy on your desktop to load into it.

The microsoft office 2003 installation


First do this
To resolve this behavior, start the Setup program for Office. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Insert the Microsoft Office 2003 CD in your CD drive or DVD drive.
  2. If the Setup program does not start automatically, locate the Setup.exe file on the CD, and then double-click the file to start Setup.
  3. After the Setup window appears, cancel Setup, and then respond to the prompts to exit Setup.
Note You do not have to complete the Setup program. Setup fixes the error condition when it is first invoked.
If it doesn't help follow these steps.
go to add/remove programs via control panel
the go to office 2003
select "change".
Select repair
You will be asked for the installation CD. Please insert it before start this procedure.
Then do a repair and follow the instructions

Does anyone have clue about the " Pro.Msi" File


An .msi file is a database of all the files, settings, and configuration information for the associated application. When you install Office on your computer, the .msi file is saved in a hidden folder. Without this file, Windows Installer cannot update your configuration, install optional features, or apply software updates. Office cannot be installed, repaired, or updated if the .msi file is not found.
Why is the .msi file missing? The most likely reason for Windows Installer to require the installation CD is because the saved version of the .msi file for Office has been inadvertently or deliberately deleted from your computer. It is also possible that the file is damaged or corrupted.
Occasionally, changing the drive letters associated with partitions on your hard disk can cause this problem to occur — such as changing drive C: to a different letter or moving the hard disk drive from one computer to another. Other possible causes are a damaged or corrupted hard disk or registry file.
What to do when prompted for a missing .msi file If you are prompted for the location of a missing .msi file, you must provide the original installation CD used to install Office on your computer.
  1. Make sure that you have inserted your Office installation CD into the CD drive of your computer. If you installed Office from a network, browse to the network location from which you installed Office.
  2. Click Retry.
In most cases, these steps should resolve the problem and Office can complete the installation and configuration of the needed component.

Office 2003, Office XP, and Office 2000 provide the Detect and Repair command. You can find the Detect and Repair command on the Help menu of almost all Office programs. Using this command corrects identifiable problems such as missing files, corrupt files, registry omissions, or damaged registry entries. It replaces the .msi file if it was deleted, damaged, or is the wrong version. Using the Detect and Repair command usually requires you to provide the installation CD for the version of Office currently installed on your computer.

  • Do not delete hidden folders or files from any drives on your computer.

MS Office missing sku112. cab file - will not open


Hi Jimday356,

This is a common problem with most migration issues. What i would suggest is, if possible, "rip" your data to another external hardrive (or a thumbdrive) and make sure you copy all data over. I have done this before and i can tell you, the whole data size should amount less than 500mb. In fact, i would suggest that you do the same for all programs that you deem important on your computer, always store them as software on some external drive (or thumbdrives) and have the, updated or refreshed every month or so (to be on the safe side to oprevent data corruption).

Once you have done that, just insert your drive via USB and run the stup file. It should automatically start repairing whatever missing links and resotre all shortcuts on desktops and program files. Hope the suggesiton above helps, else, please let me know and i can instruct you in detail as to a proper alternate procedure.

It seems that the CD by which you are trying to install Microsoft Office 2003 had the *.CAB File missing.

2 Option: It may need some Updates from Microsoft Website. So please download the required service pack for MS office.

This may have happened if you use some desktop clean up utillity.

To work around this problem, you have to provide the original installation source files.

For example, use one of the following procedures when you receive the error message:
• Insert the original Office 2003 program CD that you used to install Office 2003, and then click OK.

• Click Browse, locate the Office 2003 program installation folder on the network, and then click OK.
