How do I find the correct priming bulb and how do I replace the priming bulb?

priming bulbs are normally held in place by a ring around the base with 2 or three screws
remove that ring and the bulb comes out of the seat
take it to a mower shop as most bulbs are the same
if that is not the case ,take the carby to the mower shop and they will fit a new one for you

Does not prime

Make sure that the priming bulb is not broken - if so replace. If bulb is good then the carb check valve is no good and the carb has to be replaced.

My prime bulb looses pressure and first start is hard. I have to remove fuel line from filter and cover with thumb prime re install then first start takes time.

Does the engine run fine after it starts? Most common problem with primer bulb losing prime is an air leak in the fuel line or primer bulb. Air leaks don't always leak fuel. If there is an air leak between the primer bulb and gas tank there is no pressure, only vacuum. If it is not a major leak it might not leak without pressure but it will allow air to enter the fuel line. If it is a very minor air leak it could allow air to replace the liquid in the fuel line over time, but so little air once it is primer again that the fuel pump can over come it with volume of fuel.

Primer bulbs do not stay firm, as they are when initially pumped up, after the engine is running. There are check valves in the primer bulb that hold pressure in the primer bulb and throughout the fuel line to the engine. Once the engine starts the fuel pump creates vacuum drawing fuel into the engine diminishing this pressure and releasing the check valves. At this point the primer bulb is just another segment of fuel hose allowing fuel to pass through it as the fuel pump demands. The primer bulb functions much better when the outlet side is higher than the inlet side. This position makes it easier for the check valves in the primer bulb to seat and release as needed. If the primer bulb is functioning properly and is positioned with the outlet side higher than the inlet it should not be necessary to cover the end of the fuel hose with your thumb to get it to prime.

If the engine is hard to start after being fully primed there could be a problem with the fuel system on the engine. Some engines are hard to prime once air has entered the system, especially fuel injected models.

Priming bulb failing to pull fuel from tank. Pumping bulb makes bubbles in tank. I can prime motor by pumping bulb when unit is tilted on the bulb side. Once put upright, it burns gas in bulb and dies....

hi there clubgy

sounds like you need to go through the carby and rekit it , make sure all the passages are clear and replace the welch plugs and check passages under them too and replace the purge prime valve assy that the primer bulb and flange connect to as you mentioned pick up and return lines are ok with no cracks or splits , make sure the tank breather is ok as well as the tank filter not blocked / restrictred thats about all i can think of

take a look and let me know

I bout a 22" push mover last year. The priming bulb on this has been torn and it is difficult to start it.It should not tear or get damaged so easily. Please help. Harjinder S Sabherwal

I agree the priming bulb should be more robust or somehow protected. You could replace the bulb, but soon have the same problem again. A simple work-around is to buy a can of spray instant-start (spray ether sold in auto parts stores). Spray this into the air filter each time you start the mower cold, thus avoiding the need to prime it.

I have a Saeco Incanto RS Espresso Machine. The prime light is on, but the machine won't prime. Very little water of steam comes out of the wand.

You need to manually prime it using the priming bulb that came with it. Instructions are in the manual. Remove water tank. Fill priming bulb. Hold priming bulb on water inlet. They don't inter-connect, so just hold it on there as best you can. Turn the machine on, turn steam knob on, and gently, slowly squeeze the bulb to force water into the machine. It works best when the machine is cold, because you want to get liquid water in there, and not have it displaced by steam.
