Fundenmentals guys.

Type into the browser http://217.146.186.51

This happens to be yahoo ip address. If this works then you have issues with the DNS settings on your network. If not see item 2 below;

Check that via start/Run/cmd - this should take you to a black and white text screen.

type 'ipconfig /all' this will show the connections.
If you have more than one. It's wise to only have one currently connected.

Either Wireless or Ethernet. At the bottom of the list of numbers.

You should see 'DNS Servers' entry. Type 'PING ' then the IP address.

Normally 192.168.0.1 (Might be different so check!), If you get no reply then that's your answer.

Try changing the DNS settings via 'My Network Places/ View My Networks/' Highlight the Connected Network.

Then right click, select Propertise.

Then under 'This connection uses the following items' scroll down to the TCP/IP.

Select it. Then select 'Propertise' At the bottom. Obtain DNS server address.

Select Use the following. Then type the following Public DNS IP address into the first box. 66.93.87.2 and then the one that you found using IPCONFIG /ALL in the second.

This then will lookup the IP address for the URL's that you type into the browser. By asking the Public DNS server first. This is then unrelated to the way that you talk to the internet. (DSL/Corp etc)

Select 'OK' until you return to the Desktop. Open the browser and it should work. But the window system may need a restart for the settings to take effect. Depends on what OS is running.

Item 2:

If it does not then you have issues with you actual internet connection.

start/Run/cmd - this should take you to a black and white text screen.

Type 'tracert 217.146.186.51' then hit enter.

This will then show the route that the system is taking to get to the website.

If it shows the yahoo.com at the end your fine. Otherwise, it will pinpoint where the system is stopping.

If, it works then the issue is with the browser. Here is the Firefox address to download a better browser! - type into browser http://66.93.87.2 download!

Now, for those sorry chaps that stop, without reaching the end!!

Type in 'ipconfig /all' again. Check that the IP address you recieved is not 169.254.x.x as this indicates that the device that provides the IP number is having a bad day. Reset this device if you are able. Turn it off and Wait! Best option is make a cup of tea. Then turn the device back on. Let it have at least the time it takes you to drink your just made HOT tea before you retype 'IPCONFIG /ALL' We know you end users!

If you are using a wireless connection that states it's connected. Check that you have put WEP or Security key in correctly. It made state that you are connected. But running the IPCONFIG at command prompt normally says different.

Hope you all are now better.

"How to fix Yahoo! Messenger sign in error

[Solution #1]
Here's how I solve it:
1. Open your Internet Explorer
2. Go to Tools > Internet Options then click the Connections tab
3.Click the LAN Settings button and a new dialog box will open
4. At the new dialog box, look for the Proxy server checkbox, if this is checked, uncheck it.
5. Then your done, click OK button for the dialog boxes.
6. Try logging in to your Yahoo Messenger account.
My solution is good only if you have set your proxy server previously in your Internet Explorer. I've noticed this behaviour since in our school, I need to set the proxy server to access the internet. But at home, I don't need to. So when I am at home, this is the normal situation I encounter when I forget to unset back the proxy settings.
On the other hand, the other way around should work. What I mean here is, if you connect to a network that has a proxy server, you need to setup the proxy settings in order for you to use their internet services. Thus, access to yahoo could be established.
[Solution #2]
One area to look also if the proxy is not the one causing the problem, you can check if you have your DNS Server address(es) set, which - in case you have changed your network, can't be accessible to the new network. Thus, it can cause this error.
So, you may unset the DNS Servers (Go to Network Properties >> General Tab >> TCP/IP Properties >> General Tab > Obtain DNS Server address automatically) and try logging in your YM.
[Solution #3]
If the above solutions does not go well, this last one might be the savior. Instead of constantly banging your heads with those re-logins and reconfigurations, you can track back your YM version and replace it with an old version instead. I did this and it works for me well. I had before a version 9 Yahoo Messenger and when I replace it with a version 8, the problem was solved. This should be your last resort if the previous won't work. Remember also to be patient. If it bugs you, don't bug down... bug up!
Here's an old version of Yahoo Messenger (8.1.0.419.exe) - [Download]
Hope these helps.

I am unable to view my yahoo mail

If after signing in to Yahoo mail you get 'opening page about:blank' problem, this is not caused by a virus, trojan, or anything like that! Yahoo have been making changes to the appearance of their home page and also their e-mail. As a result, the screen resolution of 800 x 600 on many PCs will no-longer allow you to sign in. Try changing your screen resolution to 1024 x 768

I can't get into my yahoo mail

If you are seeing a page cannot be displayed error from your browser, you might need to clear your cache and delete cookies. If you are using FIrefox, just click Tools and Clear Private data. If you are using IE, click Tools, Internet Options. From the Browsing History area, click Delete and Delete All. Then try going to http://mail.yahoo.com and hit refresh several times.

Also, try flushing your DNS by opening a command prompt from Start >> All Programs >> Accessories. Type: ipconfig /flushdns

Tell me if this helps. Goodluck!

Cant log into yahoo mail

I had the same problem 2 days ago, I tried a lot of things and finally got the the solution.
It was a DNS resolution problem
In my wireless netgear DG 834GT router settings (through IE), at the DNS address I unchecked "get automatic from ISP" then checked to use the primary DNS at 4.2.2.2 and secondary DNS at 4.2.2.3 ( I followed the Router's manual instructions )
Maybe u have to see in your Router manual what address u have to put for primary and secondary DNS?
Good luck, hope this will help

Messenger error 81003005

Hi,

here are some causes: Firstly; this error occurs when your connection preferences are not properly set. I'm not talking about your Yahoo! ID and Password here, but you may need to adjust certain features depending on what network you're on. Let's says for example, if a firewall protects your network, it may block yahoo messenger when it tries to connect to the server. You need to change your connection settings, click the Messenger menu in yahoo messenger and select Connection Preferences. Select Firewall With No Proxies. Select your Internet Connection type from the pull-down menu at the bottom and enter your Home Country if the adoptions aren?t grayed out. Click OK and login again using the new settings. If this option doesn?t work, click Connection Preferences in Yahoo! Messenger again and select No Network Detection. Try to login again using the new settings. In some instances, you may need to provide yahoo messenger with the IP address of your firewall or proxy server (you can get this information from your network administrator or from your Internet service provider). Click Messenger and select Connection Preferences again. Select Use Proxies. Enable either the HTTP Proxy or the SOCKS Proxy as needed and provide the proper address. Click OK and login again using the new settings.Secondly; if you are using IM9 there are sign in problems. This is what yahoo has to say. Try an updated version of Yahoo! Messenger 9.0(9.0.0.2128). This latest build includes a fix for the sign-in issues that have been affecting some users. If you were seeing an error code?81003005? when trying to sign in, this latest version may fix that problem. Even if you were experiencing a different kind of sign-in issue, I recommend installing this latest version. Hope it was helpful!

Thanks.

I click on my yahoo link and yahoo pops up but I can not log in

DNS stands for Domain Name Service. Most DNS errors usually indicate lack of a connection to the internet
When you hit a dns error it usually means your computer cant get to theinternet. If it only has the problem for certain addresses it meansthat either there's no entry for it or perhaps you mistyped it.

A couple ways to fix this problem :
1. Try right clicking on the networking icon in the taskbar and hitting repair.
2. goto a command prompt (start --> run, type cmd ) and type : ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew.
3. if you goto control panel and then network properties and you gointo the IPv4 settings for your network adapter, you can statically setthe DNS. I recommend using a verizon DNS server 4.2.2.3 because it'seasy to remember.
4. If none of the above fix it, try a different machine, it most likelymeans your internet connection may not be up properly. Check cables andconnectivity and make sure you are getting an IP address.. If you gotothe command prompt (see step 2) and type IP config you should have anipaddress. If the address begins with 169.254 it means you are notbeing assigned an IP address and you will not be able to connect untilyou get one.
