If you have Windows 98, Me, or XP, try typing "msconfig" into "run." On the "Startup" tab (leave the other ones alone!!) uncheck the ones that don't refer to your anti-virus software or anything else you know you want running in the background, like Skype, etc. If unsure, why not turn them all off (for starters)! You can always go back and turn any of these programs back on, so don't worry that you'll break your computer permanently. This will make a huge difference, especially if you have a huge mess of icons down by the clock on your taskbar, that you don't know what they do. Also, you will need to reboot or logoff-login to see the changes you made.

If you haven't got an anti-virus program, I recommend AVG, which in my opinion is the best of the free ones.

-Scan for any viruses.
-Do a Defrag once a week, that's Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools> Disk Defragmenter.
-You can also increase/Add your RAM.
-Last option is reformat your hard drive and do a clean install of Windows OS.

My dell is runing slow

Hi,
The most common causes of a slow PC is:
a)It has been infected with viruses and/or spyware
b)You have too many programs or apps installed on your PC which are running in the background and slowing the tasks you are busy with.

Install a good anti-virus program such as AVG free edition. You can download it for free from www.avg.com
Once downloaded run a full scan to detect viruses and spyware which may be slowing your PC down.
Also uninstall any programs which you are not using.

Best wishes,
Graemevm

Runs slow on video downloads

Hello Sir,

downloading speed depends on internet connection not on PC specification.

If your transfer is low then downloading will also be low.

Take note that source from which you are downloading also must have reliable connection.

cheers,
Mike

Computer slowed down considerabily.

Check whether this is not a viral slow down. If not i suggest this

1. Give enough space to the hard drive.
2. Uninstall unused application for a long time and not needed anymore.
3. Install Ccleaner, this can clean your registry, cookies, and other junk files.
4. Defragment your drive. If you have enough space already.

HP PC bogged down despite cleaning cache and removing old programs

Try adaware or spybot. Your PC could also be overheating. Open the case and blow out any dust. I also would check your add/remove programs and delete an software you don't use. Hit ctrl alt del when your PC slows down and look at the running processes for what might be slowing your system down.

Need to put norton 360 on this laptop. 2nd of the possible 3, allowed

don't use norton 360, it will only slowing down your pc if your computer not powerful enough.
Thus, norton not really a good antivirus.

bitdefender total security is good enough for you. It has a option called game mode that won't slowing down your pc
