Setting Up the Netgear WGT624 as a bridge

Want to use my Netgear WGT 624 as a bridge/accesspoint to increase my wireless range. I have a 2Wire HomePortal modem/router connected to the DSL input and I want to connect the Netgear to the 2Wire through a wired port and use the Netgear wireless function to increase my wireless range.

Just disable the DHCP function of the Netgear router. Connect them from LAN port of 2wire to LAN port of Netgear.

Download smart wizard instalation assistany wgt 624

Connect a LAN cable from the Netgear to the LAN port on your computer, open a browser and enter the Netgear configuration URL -
http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = password You can now change the default admin password and configure the wireless settings.
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

Hi, You can also try to leave the password screen blank, and also try to use admin also as that password.
Thank you for using Fixya. Your recommendation is highly appreciated for the free support.

I am assuming you meant WTG, rather than WGT ---

Go to here:

Attempting to connect WGT624 V4 as a wireless bridge to connect to my 2 wire qwest dsl modem to connect tv components to internet along with Xbox 360

To establish the bridge connection, make sure to write down the Wireless MAC Address of the 2wire first. Now login to your Netgear router's setup page and go to the wireless bridge settings. Manually type there the Wireless MAC Address of the two wire. Make sure to enter the same SSID, same Channel and same Wireless Security Key to successfully establish the wireless bridging. Save your settings after that and reboot the router.

To access your router's software and programming, go to your internet address bar and type 192.168.1.1
If it asks you for username and password, type admin for both. Change settings from here.

I cannot connect to the internet when I use the netgear router.

If I am understanding you correctly, you are removing the cable from the modem, then connecting it to the router. This is your first mistake. Once you've completed the connecting wizard on the CD that came with the router, you should take the cable that is connected from your modem to your PC, and disconnect it from the PC and connect it to the "WAN" port on the router. Then take a second CAT5 cable, and connect it to port 1 on the router, then to your PC where the first cable was connected. If this does not solve your issue, please respond.
