Question about GE Dryers

1 Answer

Ge Cloths dryer will not stay running or turn drum

I have a GE dryer model DX4500ee1ww. When I turn the start switch I can hear the motor run, but the drum does not turn and as soon as I let go of the switch it turns off. The drum can be turned by hand easily. I replaced the start switch but it did not fix the problem.

Hi,

In most cases the motor is seized or something is preventing it from spinning (seized drum wheel for example).

Why doesn't the dryer stay running when I let go of the start switch?

Hi, There is only one reason I can see the dryer stops after you let off on the start switch is the motor because GE motors has start switches either built inside the motor which is non removable or built outside the motor which can be replaced .
Its called a motor start switch and the way to locate it is to remove the front panel on the dryer and remove the drum and belt and then write down the motor model number and look at all the wires that go into the motor which is your motor start switch that is held in by two screws but before you remove it don't forget to copy the wire down on piece of paper of how you remove them .
If you don't see a black switch to the motor then its built in and the motor needs to be replaced.

Not sure of model but dryer does not stay running when switch is released. As long as you hold switch on it runs and when you release it shuts off. Suggestions?

Check the belt is not broken . If the drum turns when you start it then either the belt switch is bad or the motor switch is not working because it is bad or the motor may be full of lint.

Dryer will not stay running unless you hold start switch.

DOES THE DRUM TURN OR JUST THE MOTOR KICK ON TILL YOU LET GO OF THE BUTTON. SEE IF YOU HAVE A BROKEN BELT. THERE MAY BE A SWITCH THAT KEEPS THE MOTOR FROM RUNNING IF THE BELT BREAKS.

CHECK INSIDE DRYER TO BE SURE A LOT OF LINT IS NOT ON TOP OF MOTOR. THE LINT CAN INTERFERE WITH THE CETRIFIGUAL SWITCH THAT IS LOCATED IN THE MOTOR.

IM SURE ITS THE BELT

GE electric dryer (model #DDE5300BBLAD) won't start when I hit the start switch. I do hear a noise when I hit the start switch...stops when I release the switch.

the sound you hear is the motor trying to start.reach in drum and turn clockwise 1 revolution.try to start it again,if it starts your motor is starting to go bad and will have to b e replaced soon.if you canrt turn thje drum you probably have something stuck in blower below lint filter .hope this helps .please rate my response:)

If the dryer is getting hot but not turning, you most likely need a new drum belt. If the belt is ok then you will need a new motor.
