CANON SD1000 STOPPED FLASHING

The Canon SD1000 I use A TON has stopped flashing for any and all photos. I am smart enough to read the manual & have replaced the battery however, I still feel as though I have programmed something wrong recently on my camera which has stopped it from flashing. What menu & buttons do I need to use to get my flash back? Thanks

Hi Chanelbitter, I am convinced that this is an "operator error" on my part & that I have done something wrong with regard to "programming" the flash. I would have NO idea how to take my camera apart and where to look for a capacitor. These cameras are so small that I worry about attempting to try and remove any screws. Is the solution you are suggesting an easy one to try? Can I just "buy" a capacitor from a camera store? Thanks for your help!! Have a super day. Toni

The camera will only take pictures when the flash is off, and no matter what functions have been tried it still will not take a picture. I have also changed the battery and nothing has changed.

The camera won't take pics because needs the flash in nonluminated areas. I you are unfamiliar with the camera and do not want to take any risks, send it for repair. But if you want to try it, buy the flash unit, that comes with the capacitor attached, open the camera and replace the flash unit. there are tons of sites that teach you how to opened. howto.com Remember the first part you take out, is the last part to put back!
It worked for me hope it works for you!!!

Ensure that the battery is fully charged. If the battery is fully charged and the problem continues, export all the photos to a computer and format the memory card.
If there is an issue with the memory card, formatting may resolve the issue.

If you have the manual read it.
If you do not, download the manual, and read it.. : http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/2/0900011242/01/PSSD1000_IXUS70_CUGba_EN.pdf

Page 18 in the manual:
The self timer is on the middle on the FUNC SET button. Press the timer which will give you 3 choices 10, 2, or custom which can be from 0 to 30 sec.

Flash Does not work. canon sd1000

This happened to my SD1000 and I followed the step by step instructions shown here:
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Replacing+Canon+PowerShot+SD1000+Broken+Flash+Unit/7778/1

and when I got to step 15, I found that the small plug that connects the flash to the camera body had been disconnected when the camera had been dropped. I simply pressed the connection back in tight and reassembled the camera - and it works. Maybe this happened to yours too??

You are correct in saying that the bulb needs to be replaced. Take the camera to any camera shop and they will replace it for you.
