Question about Polaroid TBX-2000AF 20 in. TV/VCR/DVD Combo
This TV/DVD/VCR combo will randomly open the DVD tray and display the Polaroid screen, whether the Power On button is actuated. It just cycles through this operation. Attempting to turn the set off through the Power On button does not reset or fix this operation. The AC line cord must be removed from the outlet to turn the set off. Has anyone seen this. Thank you

Ok this is a sure fire way of getting that DVD out. Open up the unit, find the load and unload gear, rotate the gear and that should eject the carriage slide. That's it.

SOURCE: Polaroid TTM-2003 Locked up.
The same thing happened to me. The manual on polaroid.com says to press and hold the F button (located at the top of the remote) and press the mute button at the same time. This will unlock as well as lock the TV. It's a child safety feature.

I do not have good news for either of you. These are notorious for having cheap lasers in them and their original purchase price usually makes a repair cost prohibitive. If you are having an intermittent problem where the disc will freeze - then play - then freeze - then play this is often the first indicator that the laser is failing. One easy way to confirm this is to play a compact disc in the player. CDs are easier for the player to read than DVDs are. If it plays CD and you continue to experience problems with DVDs this usually indicates a laser failing. Remember, when buying a consumer electronic product, the price of a thing usually reflects the quality of that thing.
As for cleaning discs; if a laser has enough residue built up on it to prevent the error correction system from overcoming it, then the microfine brushes on a cleaning disc will probably be ineffective at removing that build up. Cleaning discs are akin to the old VCR cleaning tapes, usually ineffective.
Sorry for the bad news,

Unplug the TV from the wall, leave unplugged for a day or two, the TV may reset itself. You will lose all the programmed channels and may be other stored settings. The best is to get a universal remote for $10 or less.

press Display key repeatedly to turn Off on-screen display or put a VHS tape in and leave it there to avoid that Display on screen.
