Question about Philips Magnavox MWR20V6 DVD Recorder/VCR

1 Answer

Magnavox MWC24T5A When the power is turned on, The relay in This unit would click and something near the HV would make a rapid clicking sound, and then immediately power off. With the case open, I tried to isolate where the clicking sound was coming from. After turning the unit on about 50 times, the 4.7 capacitor blew smoke into the air. What would be clicking and cause the cap to blow? Thanks

Turning it on repeatedly probably took the cap in the shutdown circuit. As for the underlying problem I would suspect the HOT 2sc2578 p/n# 4835 130 48252... And/or possibly a diode short to ground. Might test D1643, D1605 (rectifier diode) or D2575.. After that, mybe regulator or Q1601 2sk3563, Q1602 2sc2120 in the smps.

Why is the unit Magnavox vet/DVD recorder turning off when I insert the tape, and when power back on it ejects the tape.

There is something wrong with the mechanism, either the main drive mechanism, or the cassette holder part. Possible physical damage to the plastic parts. When the tape is inserted a device called a mode switch tells the electronics which position both mechanisms are in. If they go out of sequence, due to damage, or a faulty mode switch, the electronics shut the system down to prevent tape damage. When you power it up, the system thinks it is eject mode and chucks out the tape.

Magnavox h2160mw9 power won't come on

I have 2 Magnavox h2160mw9 that won't turn on after power failure. I unplug, wait 15 to 30 minutes, then re-plug and the Magnavox h2160mw9 powers on by its self. I have to reset clock and any programing that was erased. Channels previously scanned remain okay. Hope this helps.

Magnavox vcr/dvd combo the vcr part only plays for 8 seconds

What you have is called a transport problem in the VCR unit--the mechanism is either jammed or something in it that loads the tape is bad.

Every time it is used it cycles to self check the mechanism--if it fails it is usually a belt bad or a gear assembly not working.

Someone would have to open unit to see what is happening.

Had the same problem. took cover off, cleaned the recording heads. Also look on the left and right of casett chassie. You'll see to thin green strips sticking up with a black elctronic device. Chech to see if it is aimed at the clear plastic pin near the little black plastic gear in the middle. mine was out of alignment on the left one. Works know. Good luck

When I turn my recorder on it will only stay on a few seconds and then turns off and goes back to stand by mode. Any suggestion?

Sounds Like a Power supply fault....If you have no expirence in fixing things the best thing to do is to take it back to the supplier if it is under warranty if it is out of warranty then take it to a local service centre...but if you feel compentent enough to fix it yourself you need to open up the unit (follow warnings and remeber to disconnect from mains power) and find the Power supply section which should be at the back right hand of the unit ( normally were to power cord comes into the unit) and you need to test that the front panel power switch is not shorting causing it to turn on then turn off again....there could be some goo on the contacts of the switch this is quite common. more than likely this unit uses a relay to activate the power supply when the front button or the remote power is pressed...check that relay with a multi-meter on its contacts make sure it is not shorted (it should be open if the unit is not working and shorted when the unit is turned on)..if it is still faulty then take it to a service center as it will take to long to explain on here where to go next but it might have something to do with the remote control switching or could be something wrong with an controler IC.....hope this helps, ben

I had a similar problem, particularly when trying to use the DVD recorder, and when I turned on the unit it made a loud rapid clicking sound, and then immediately shut off. It appears to have been the VCR section of the unit (which I rarely use) that was causing the glitch, and the pragmatic solution was to simply leave a blank VCR cassette in the machine all the time. Then I was able to use the DVD recorder without the noise and shut-off problem. (posted 2009-07-22)

TV SHUTS OFF BY ITSELF

there is a infra red emmiting diode inside that has failed. this is the diode just under the prism inside the unit. replace that and re-time the mode switch. the unit is not made by philips but by funai so no support can be given to you from philips. I've repaired close to 60 of these with the same problem you have.
