Question about Sewing Machines

Machine will not sew forward without backstitching

This old janome sewing machine( my guess its a early 80's model) has two dials on the front, what apears to be the stich size regulator and a pattern selector dial. It also dosnt apear to have a drop feed buttton anywhere. I tried to select a stitch to stop edges fraying after sewing beautifully and now the machine will only sew forward with a backstitch action ie; three foward two back etc. it dosnt seem to have a problem with any of the other fancy stiches

You have selected the Stretch Stich (SS) mode on the stitch length regulator, just turn the knob around until you have a number 1 - 5 and that should be it.
The model number will be the last digits on the metal compliance plate with voltage etc.....looks like:
V / 1234 / 123454321 / 2016
This then would be a Model 2016

I need an instruction book for serial number 641041095 please

The model number may be in the name, ie Janome Dream Quilter. Also, look for a plate, badge, or even a number stamped into the case.

Search the internet for:

Manufacturer + Model + the word "Manual"

Hi clever people! I've been trying to do a button hole on my janome j3-24 which is meant to be a 1 step button holer. However, so far every time it does it fine round the 2 small sides and the first long...

This is a sewing machine we don't have in the US, so I'm guessing here, but I think the stitch pattern is unbalanced. On some machines, there's a dial to "balance the patterns", which you can turn to restore symmetry to something like a buttonhole. Often you need to automatically stitch out a pattern in order to reset the balance knob.
If your machine doesn't have such a knob, it's time to take it in for a lookover.

Janome 6125qc

Although you have selected a zigzag have you also set the stitch width and length manually as required? Some stitch types have restrictions on the width you can set so it's important to know which these are.If you don't have the instruction book it is available as a free download from Janome. Go to, click on the Machines tab then choose 'retired' and scroll down until you find the 6125QC - the link to the user guide is in the top right corner of the specifications tab.
