Kitchen aid dishwasher doesn't clean dishes in the top rack

Just recently my 5 year old kitchen aid dishwasher stopped working on the dishes, mostly glasses, placed in the top rack.  The bottom dishes are getting clean but the ones on the top are still dirty.
Can't figure it out.
help!

  • janaize Nov 30, 2008

These are the model numbers on the manual that came with it.  not sure which one.

Whirlpool dishwasher- dishes on top rack are coming out dirty and it makes a groaning noise.

  • Anonymous Mar 22, 2014

Water is not getting into the machine. Machine runs through all cycles, but dishes come out as they went in, dirty. Top rack is dry. The heat works as steam comes out of the vents, but no water to clean dishes.

    dishes dirty not cleaning

  • Anonymous Mar 24, 2014

I've had the machine for about 4-5 years and recently it began leaving debris on the top rack glasses/dishes. Usually mostly on the exterior, but sometimes on the inside of the glasses as well. Technician advised me to increase hot water temperature, change detergent, and add more rinse aid. None of those things have helped. Any thoughts? He disassembled the pump, inspected the spray arms, etc. and didn't find anything unusual.

Sounds like you have 1 of 2 problems. Either your pump is clogged or you need a bigger drain loop.

can you provide the model number so i can tell you according to your model?

ok in the dishwasher you will see you lower spray arm. take it off. now going up the back is the supply tube. you need to pop it off of thed top then the back and turn it clockwise to get it off the motor. after you do that you will see 4 torx screws. take all 4 out and you will be able to remove the fine filter. thats the normally grey piece with all the slots. after you remove the filter you will see two more torx screws. remove them they are for 2 seperate pieces one is the foreigh food seperator and the other is the chopper cover. remove both of them and clean the whole thing out. as yiou are puytting it back together. let me know if you get stuck

You did not list the model of the machine. But it appears to me that the disposal in the unit might be in need of work. There are teeth in the machine that grind food.

We have a Kitchen Aid dishwasher model number KUDK03CTSS3. It's only about 3 years old, but the dishes on the top rack do not get clean. We thought maybe it was water not coming out the top, or food stuck...

had a simular problem, used product called dishwasher magic to clean it well and that took care of it. I got it @ walmart in the diswasher detergent area. Also be sure you are loading according to the manual. I now use lemi shine in every load for spot free clean dishes and put the dishwasher magic in it about every few months to keep it from getting build up. If you have a manual they have directions to take them apart for cleaning and I have had to that before to. Just remember how to get it back together. That's all I have but I'm not a repair person I'm a nurse.

Kitchen aid dishwasher, 3 yrs old, dishes on top rack do not get clean

Hi,

On your model, upper rack cleaning issues are most often linked to debris in the inlet to the pump. I have put some instructions together on cleaning this. If you follow the link it will explain how to check and clean this.

Dishes not clean?

Check all the water jet orfices in the moving arm. Try cleaning without loading the top rack.

If cleans well, mostly the upper rack dishes not arranged properly.

I hope you are using the main wash detergents. Rinse aid is just to remove the stains after the main wash rinse.

Although I previously posted with the same problem of a film on the dishes after cleaning, I did find a section in the owner's manual which solved my problem. Lift up the rinse aid cap on the inside door - the factory setting is on "4". The rinse aid works in conjunction with your local water, which has variations in it's hardness or softness. When your dishes are streaky, lower the rinse aid setting to 1 or 2. If your dishes are spotted, raise the rinse aid setting higher.
