Question about Maytag Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

We have a maytag ceran cermaic top cooking stove with large black stain that seems to be spreading like cancer over one of the "elements". We have tried a couple different over-the-counter products to clean this up and nothing has worked. We don't feel that it is food related since we are prompt about cleaning up spills. Does anyone know what could have caused this and do you have any recommendations. We are in a rental house and do not want to have to replace the stove. Thanks.

Try using the regular ceramic cooktop cleaner, apply and clean as you werewaxing a car, in samll circular motions, any stubbourn stains should be able to be removed by re-applying creme and scraping with razor blade( using flat side down not corners of razor)

Hi, I have a wonderful Maytag speckled black smooth top stove. Over Christmas someone caused a big (2 " diameter) stain. I've tried everything to get it out. is it possible to have a new ceramic...

Ceramic cooktop cleaning tips - especially for 2-in difficult-to-remove stain:
Best Idea: "Cerama Bryte" + plastic scrubbie
Cerama Bryte is specifically designed for this cooktop, works on stains, avail at Hardware Stores.

Other ceramic cooktop tips:
1. "Soft Scrub" plasic scrubbie
2. Comet cleanser + sponge
3. Single-edge razor blade held at 45-degree angle - scrapes off material
4. "Cook Top" cleaner (WalMart) + Mr. Clean "Magic Eraser" abrasive pad
5. baking soda on damp sponge
6. soak stain for awhile with Formula 409, Fantastic, or citrus degreaser ("Orange Clean")
7. ammonia + water - in a 1:1 solution
8. Easy Off oven cleaner - it foams on the stain and does the work for you - let it sit 20 min.
9. the nuclear option:
Cerama Bryte under a plastic scrubbie under an orbital sander with sandpaper removed
(just the pad down on top of the scrubbie), after pre-soaking in Citrus Degreaser.
The sander is a power tool which only saves your joints, and speeds up the chore.

I have a Schott Ceran cook top that is marred with black stains all over the burners. The stove works, but looks awful. How much would it cost to replace top? The marks seem to be appearing from the bottom...

Use oven cleaner. Spray it and let it sit on a couple of hours. Scrape with a razor blade. It worked for me after trying everything recommened by the manufacture.

Sugar spills on a hot surface will 'pit' the glass surface. There is no way to repair. The damage caused to the surface is only cosmetic and will not affect the performance or operation.

Cast iron pans

Cast iron cookware is NOT recommended due to the weight and the potential damage it can cause to the glass top surface. There's nothing better than a good old-fashioned cast iron skillet that's been broken in over a number of years of use, but they are better suited for gas ranges rather than electric. I hate it. I have several cast iron skillets that I only use on the outdoor grill, because I currently own a glass top electric range.

Aluminum bottom pans and copper bottom pans heat well, but can leave metal transfer marks on the cook top surface. If the marks are cleaned after use with an approved stove top cleaner, you shouldn't have any problem retaining the condition of the glass surface, however. Stainless Steel seems to offer good resistance to metal transfer, but takes a little longer to heat than aluminum or copper. So...you have somewhat of a trade off. Baked enamel cookware seems to be the best recommendation because it heats wells and causes the least amount of damage to your glass top surface.

IMPORTANT: Make sure the bottom of your cookware is FLAT. If your pans are warped or bowed, this can cause uneven heat transfer on the heating elements and potentially cause the cook top to crack. Most manufacturers will not replace the top if it still under warranty if it is determined that your cookware caused the problem.

A little over kill, but I hope this helps you.

Whirlpool Oven, Ceran stove top

I want to say that since I posted my original problem with black spots appearing on the Schott Ceran top, I took pictures of the top and attached them to a complaint sent to Maytag. Approximately 3 days later, a Maytag representative phoned and offered a brand new top-basically stating that there is a fault with the tops. They would not pay for the labor to replace the top. My husband downloaded the instructions from Maytag website and installed it himself. These spots actually appear from within the surface and are not the result of a boil over, etc. The spots on my burner grew to the width of the burner. If you search the internet, you will see many others with the same problem with the Schott Ceran tops. I will never buy another!
