Or call Sears; overhead door quite differant and might not respond to business and liability reasons. Similarly, a response here would certainly exceed the bounds of propriety in that there is not way to provide the completeness to ensure you would not be seriously injured. The task you envision can be DIY but considering you question, seems best left to a qualified installer from Sears. For future reference, do not fail perform scheduled maintenance on the opener including lubricating the torsion spring over the door.

When I go to open the garage door the door only raises 18 inches & stops. I press the remote again & it closes. I sometimes have to open/close the door 10 times before it opens fully.

Is the main spring at the top of your door broken or has it unwound so there is too much pressure when trying to raise the door up. Check that out also check and see if you unlock the door with the rope that's on the overhead connection where the opener looks on the door See if the door will open if you try to open by hand. If its hard to push up either the spring is bad or you are seized some place.

Have i/3hp motor runs but door won't open think it's off the track, how do I get it back on track

It may be that your torsion spring is broken. Look at the spring about the door opening. It is horizontal, and should be in one piece about 30" long. Sometimes 6" breaks off and then the spring will not counterbalance the door and the motor will not be able to move it. If the spring is ok, then release the emergency pull rope, red handle. Now move the door up and down by hand and see if it is jamming somewhere. Be careful not to stand directly under the door with the emergency cord released.

Can I fix a broken garage door extension spring myself ?

Yes you can!
Raise the door all the way. place clamps or vise grips on the frame to keep it safely up.
Very carefully, remove the unbroken spring and get a pair of new ones from the nearest overhead door company.
Install the new springs and then and only then remove the clamps.

My Sears 3/4 HP garage door opener opens the door about 1', then will not go past this point. It will close it as well. I have taken the door off the chain and the chain will run without the door...

1. disconnect the door from the chain. 2. inspect the door again, try oiling the rollers and joints. It is the chain that lifts the door. Try manually lifting the door. If it still does not lift open, it is the door and not the Opener unit. 3. Although you don't see kinks, look for any obstructions eg. the track. 4. Make sure the track has not lossened out at any point. 5 If you can lift the door,. connect with the chain. Goog luck. Basically I think it is the door mechanism that has some how misalligned.

Installed two new springs on automatic doorman model 455 and it won't close or open. chain will not move door where are adjustment screws? I think that may be the problem

Does it make a noise? Did it run before you changed the springs? Did you replace springs on opener or on the door? What adjustment screws are you looking for? Do you think they went out of adjustment when you changed the springs?

It goes up about 10 in. and then down about 10

You most likely have a broken door spring or a stripped drive gear. If by LED lights you mean the door sensors, they only work when the door is closing.

Craftsman 1/2 HP garage opener opens only 6 inches

Remove the cover and check the drive gear. It is white nylon and is just in front of the motor. It may be stripped. Take a close look at those door springs. They can sometime appear to be okay when one is broken.
