Question about Jenn-Air JED8430 Electric Cooktop

Cold air draft

We are noticing for the first time this year a cold-air draft coming through the downdraft grill on our Jenn air cooktop (the cooktop is several years old).  We had deck work done this summer (the deck is adjacent to the kitchen where our downdraft vent may exit, although I'm not certain of that) and wonder if the exterior vent had a "flapper" cover on it that may have been removed.  The deck is ground level, so impossible to see underneath.  Any thoughts on how to eliminate the cold air draft?

Thanks, unfortunately, we will be using for the winter. I'll have to try to get to the flapper under the deck. Ugh.

I have cold air pouring in from the down vent. I checked the vent door on the outside of the house and it is closed. How can I reduce the cold air coming in? I have not been able to find a "cover" for the down vent that would be of a safe material. Right now, I'm just using a newspaper or towels!

I just cover it with a kitchen towel when I'm not using it. If I don't, the kitchen is freezing in the morning.

I put a folded kitchen towel over it when I'm not cooking. If I don't, my kitchen is freezing!

The funny thing about mine is the microwave over the stove,it feels like a freezer. The flapper is on the outside of the house but the cold air still gets in.

I have called and contacted all that can think of, no such luck. I wrapped the frame with plastic wrap and placed it back into place to cut down the cold air. It helps..

I have the EXACT same issue. Older Jenn-Air cooktop w/ downdraft vent going outside. Cold air rushes in despite having the flapper in place. There has to be a better exterior vent or some way to prevent this. It's as bad as leaving a window open!! I've also wrapped my vent with plastic wrap which does do a lot to minimize it, but there must be a better solution...

The only way is to block off/check the flapper., if your not going to use for the winter you can disconnect the vent from under the cabinet temporaily and close off there till you can gain access to check outside grill

I used my grill for the first time, & the downdraft didn't work we'll, the house filled with smoke & eventually the downdraft shut off and I had to finish cooking in a pan. My Jenn-Air is...

The downdraft is electric so there must be something malfunctioning with it. It is a high volume downdraft fan that is to be vented to the outside. Could it be that something has clogged the vent hole up, not allowing the fan to evacuate the smoke?

While I am not a big fan of Jenn-Air, their fans are usually high quality if they are installed correctly, with the proper vent lines.

Replacing an old jenn air electric cook top with new 30" down draft gas cooktop. Need to know how to secure the cooktop to the granite countertop.

You should just be able to set the cooktop in after you attach the downdraft, usually there are tabs on the downdraft that clamp on to the granite cutout. There is probably a closed-cell foam strip that runs under the lip of the cooktop, I would just make sure it seals to the granite properly (no gaps) and put a couple dabs of silicone in between the lip of the cooktop and the granite. Usually the cooktop is heavy enough that the silicone will keep it from moving around.

My new home already has a hood vent for the range. I have a gas Jenn air downdraft range. I prefer to use the hood vent as the downdraft is not very efficient. Do I have to connect the blower on my range...

The poupose of either is to eliminate any smoke created by the range or grille and move as much of the cooking odors to the outside. I wouldn't use both at the same time, but if the hood is vented to the outside, it would be just fine to use only the hood. Aregular cleaning will be necesssary. The downdraft has limits as to the distance it will efficiently exhaust air. Flex hose should not be used. And excessive bends or vent length, cuts into the efficiency.

Installing JED8230ADB Cooktop Grill with down-draft exhaust

I can't imagine directing the downdraft vent back up to a traditional hood type system. Why bother, just don't use the downdraft or get a cooktop without a down draft and save money.

In granite, yes for any cooktop as long as someone can cut the correct size hole. Cooktops must be installed so the top is just about flush with the countertop. They all come with a template for cutting the right size hole in the countertop.
