Laptop won't stay on

My compaq computer is a kind of old. We have been having problems with the battery staying on while plugged into the wall outlet, but we managed to put pressure on the wire in the back and it would stay on. Now it turns on,starts the screen for the windows xp program and after a while shows a blue screen for a very short time, to fast to read what it says, then shuts down, then restarts itself again and the whole process repeats. Help!

    the list says

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS\system32\drivers

and then after each line there is something differerent typed then it shuts off and won't let me do anything else, reboots itself and starts over again

The blue screen you are seeing is called "the blue screen of death" this could be software, hardware or a bad driver, boot into safe mode, right click on "my computer" select "manage" and then "event viewer" and lastly "system" there it will give you an error code about the blue screen, write this eroor code down and get back to us

regards

the system 32 folder in the windows directory is corrupt and you need to recover the system, did you get a recovery disk with the machine?

ok you have to go into the bios F2 on boot and change the boot order to the DVD/CD drive and save the settings by pressing F10 click Yes and reboot, make sure the disk in the drive first, if you get a prompt to press any key to boot from cd, do it and you will be able to recover the system.
i must warn you that all of your data will be wiped

    regards

take the hard drive out of the machine and plug it to another computer as a "slave" device then you have to look through the documents and settings folders and retrieve all your fhoto's, doc's, movies and music.
Once you have recovered your data put the drive back into the machine and proceed with the system recovery

    regards

HP Compaq NC8430: Laptop does not want to charge battery

Take the battery out, plug in the charger and see if the laptop works. If it works, the battery may be the problem. Check the AC Adapter
Check to make sure the adapter is plugged securely into the wall outlet, connected firmly to the adapter box and to the back of your laptop. Most AC adapters have a little light in them on that rectangular box in the middle of the cord that lights up when it's getting electricity. If that light isn't on, try a different outlet. Check your fuse or circuit breaker box and plug a different device into that outlet to make sure there is power to it. If it still does not light up, your adapter could need replacing. Also check the adapter box for signs of warmth, as it will generate heat when it's plugged in. No heat means no power.

Remove the Battery Sometimes it's as simple as a seated battery. Remove the battery entirely and clean out any dust, lint or hair that may be clogging the connectors and preventing a proper connection. Reseat the battery securely and make sure the little locking pins that hold your battery in place are securely fastened and there is no movement.

I have dell c840. Suddenly only the left most light of the three lights gets orange when power is switched on and then there is no activity and screen remains blank. Bty light when plugged in also remain...

hello

shut down computer - unplug power cord from laptop - remove the battery from laptop - plug Ac adapter into computer and Ac outlet (wall)
turn on computer
if computer does not turn on, replace the AC adapter and cord - then place battery back into computer
plug in new Ac adapter and cord - recharge battery - if orange light stays on after 4-6 hours of charging battery, you need new battery as well - replace battery, charge it up and it should be fine

if you have attempted these steps before and no change occurs, then you may have issue with power connection in computer - locate a service centre to replace power connection on computer

When the lap top logs off front light stays on

Do you still have the power cord plugged in? There are indicator light s for Battery operation, power on, hard drive activity. If you just logged off but the laptop is stillpowered on, then there will be a light indicating that. If you powered off the laptop but left it plugged into a wall outlet, then there is a chrging indicator that will stay lit.

Want stay charged

Sounds like a bad battery cause its not keeping a charge. Try a new or known good battery and see if it will charge and then unplug the ac adaptor to see if the laptop stays on.

If the laptop stays on with a different battery charged then your old battery is bad. If your laptop doesn't stay on with a known good or new charged battery without the ac adaptor hooked up then its a bad motherboard.

Computer shut down

The sparking has probably caused your circuit protection inside the AC adapter to turn off the current.
Also, when you are plugging an adapter in,,do not have it plugged into the wall power outlet when plugging into the laptop,,,plug into the laptop first and then plug into the wall.

My compaq presario R4000 just stopped working and shut down - no warning - nothing!

bad battery. best way to kill a battery is to always have it charging and never using it or discharging it.

take the battery out and use it just with power cord, see if it shuts down again. or try to use it with JUST the battery if battery is bad the PC will not turn on or stay on
