Question about Philips 55PP9352 55" Projection Television

1 Answer

TV will not turn on. It makes a nonstop clicking noise.

The clicking noise is nonstop in perfect sequence. It sounds like the TV is turning on and then off immediately. No picture comes up on the screen.

If I replace the power supply, will this fix the problem?

Or should I replace the halide lamp. Or maybe replace both. What do you think?

Sounds to me like the high voltage power supply is attempting to fire off the metal halide lamp without success.

I'd try a new lamp first...the power supply is probably a lot more expensive to replace. Lamps go out far more often than the power supplies and have a service life of only 3000hrs (+/-).

  • Matt Nov 25, 2008

Lamps aren't cheap...you're looking at spending at least $300. There are lots of folks that have managed to take 'generic' metal halide lamps and fit them inside whichever base/socket your particular lamp needs to fit into the specific recepticle in the TV.

Jumping Screen

Hello,

I've had a couple of these. The panel control board is going bad, but there may be a way to make it last a bit longer. If you go into the MENU of the TV, and turn off all the color correction, all the whistles and bells that come inside the tv to "make the picture better," it usually helps. Any kind of motion correction, or any kind of noise reduction (picture noise reduction) should be turned off. If the picture has a cloud of green pixels that seems to pepper the screen, then after you turn off all the stuff in the menu, unplug the TV for 5 minutes, and then plug back in. It should help the picture some.

Hope this helps...

Trouble turning on tv. High pitched noise/click.

The mainboard might have some loose components, or cold solder , or may be the filter capacitors are becoming faulty. Yes it is worth repairing, bring it to the repair shop. Cheers.

Sony KV-32S40 32" TV problem

intermittent problems can usuall be liked to bad solder connections. And sony typically has some that will develop after a few years in the power supply. so check for bad sodler connections throught the main board & give a close look to the power supply & check you work after to make sure you have no shorted pins. good luck.
