Question about MSI MS-6734-10 (-6734-010) Motherboard

1 Answer

Upgraded computer and won't come on, no bios.

Put MSI ms-6734, amd xp2100+, 2 gig (2 sticks of 1gig) PC2100 DDR in computer and now it won't bring up the bios or boot up. It comes on, runs the fans. Mobo was taken out of a working PC 2 weeks ago by myself, as was processor, got ram today. HDD light stays on, solid. Switched JBAT1 jumper to reset CMOS then switched back and didn't change anything.

Install DDR-DIMM PC3200 to MS-6367 MSI

That motherboard was made for PC2100 DDR266. A PC3200 DIMM *SHOULD* be backward compatible. Depending on the density of the PC3200 memory you might have problems. If you have not bought the memory yet I would go with the PC2100 for sure since the PC3200 will give you no speed gains at all and will be running at PC2100 speeds anyway.

If you already have the PC3200 memory then I would say just give it a shot. The worse case scenario is your machine will not boot up with the higher speed ram installed. Assuming you take all the normal hardware upgrade care and do not physically break anything you can test this memory with no harm to your motherboard.

MSI motherboard model 6734 AGP interface

Looks like your motherboard is a MSI KM4AM-L detailed here:

http://www.msicomputer.co.uk/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=572&maincat_no=1

If so, then it has an AGP slot which will run at 4x and 8x.

Remember to check the BIOS settings after you install it to make sure it is set to 8x, if that is what your card will take.

Whether supports DDR?

Hi valentin122, you're board does not support PC2700 memory.
The link below will take you to you're board,
MSI 845 UltraC (MS 6566). Suggest you add to you're favorites.
http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=845_Ultra-C

There is not a bios upgrade to support PC2700 memory.
Bios link.

You're manual is here.
http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloadfile&dno=3466&type=manual

See page 2-5 in you're manual.
The mainboard provides 2 slots for 184-pin, 2.5V unbuffered DDR DIMM with 4 memory banks. You can install PC1600/PC2100 DDR SDRAM modules on the DDR DIMM slots (DDR 1~2).
To operate properly, at least one DIMM must be installed.
Here is a link for you're memory. To reach you max GB, you would need 2 DIMMS.

Good Luck!
