Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

2 inches of transluscent white lines appear at top of TV screen.

The TV is just 2 years old. Several transluscent white lines are appearing at top of TV screen. I can compress the screen to 4.3 and they go away. But not all channels look good compressed. What is causing this? Thank you for your help.

Your TV has lost adjustment .
Most likely the controls are inside the TV and that a trained person needs to do the adjustment.

If your model is very old .

Then there will be an adjustment screw for controlling on the back of tv .
It would let you correct this problem with just a screw driver .

Thanks for using Fixya .

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, would suspect vertical capacitor. The lives would be slight slanted with the left slightly higher than the right and the right fading a bit. Should this be the case, then as earlier proposed, capacitor.

Might you pls post back the brand and model.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

For some reason, your posted brand/model "Magnavox 27MT60050" does not show in the database. In any case a probable comparable model, the capacitor is a 100 uF/ 35V or in some others a little lower values. Cost estimate is less than a dollar for the parts and should be readily available from most electronics parts stores. Repair should be less than 30 minutes barring any unforeseen faults. Service fee would depend on the going rate in your area.

    Cheers.

Replace all the electrolytic capacitors in the vertical output section circuit. There will be 5 or 6 of them. Replace the at one time. The fault you see is technically called " vertical retrace lies".

Horizontal white lines 27A43.

You have some bad capacitors. They are located very near and next to your vertical IC. I would guess you would have to replace maybe four of these! Thanks for asking!

Red colour appearing on screen

Your tv could have one of several faults. None of which are to be tackled by anyone except a qualified engineer due to the electric shock hazard.the first problem could be the crt (tube) the second could be the componets on crt base circuit board ie resistors or ic.
With a tv 9 years old it may not be economical to carry out a reair.

I have a 27 inch sansui television. It is about 5 years old and white lines have started to appear at the top of the screen. They are kind of annoying. Does anyone know what that is.

If your TV has a picture tube rather than an LCD display, you have a problem with the vertical circuit
(the circuit that "paints" the picture from top to bottom). Usually a capacitor in this circuit will open up causing this type of problem.

Visual transparent lines at top of picture

You have a vertical output circuit problem. This was common for Philips' sets. Have a repair shop check it out. Should not be too expensive to repair.

Top of the screen Picture Problem

sound like you have 1 or a couple of leaky/bad capacitors in the tv's vertical circuit, typically, there sould be 5 to 10 caps. in all, but you just need 1 bad one to cause your problem. good luck.
