I had the same problem. I cleaned the carburetor and air filter but still had an issue.i found a broken fuel line from tank to carburetor.replaced it it started and ran but the higher the rpm`s it acted like it was starving for fuel.Further inspection showed i had scored the cylinder walls.I hope i have helped you,Your saw may not have the same problem but these are a few area`s to check. If you haven`t already.I had to purchase a new saw it was cheaper.

Hi

I think you have a carburation problem.Carefully disassembly the carb and clean it.Check the fuel line and filter, the ventil of the gas tank.

Poulan 2150 chain saw starts after priming and dies after a few seconds

Take the exhaust off so you can see the side of the piston, if it is scored or damaged it means it has probably been run without oil added to the petrol.
That can cause the problems you are having, if it is throw it away, its not worth repairing

My Poulan Pro 295 chain saw starts fine, runs for a few minutes, then stops and will not start until completely cool. What could be my problem?

It sounds very much loke the ignition is playing up when hot, just as a little test when it starts to die slacken off the fuel filler cap does it pick up/re start? if yes it is a fuel tank breather issue, replace the breather.

If the chain runs at idle, or tries to turn when cranking the saw, then there is an issue with either the clutch drum bearing or the clutch spring has become weak, to get to both of these components you need special tools, the tool to remove the clutch is part no. 530031112, and the tool to adjust the carb screws is part no. 530035560, the L screw will adjust from idle to half throttle including acceleration, the H screw will adjust the full engine speed

The saw starts and runs on fast idle but dies when you use the throttle? it,s a troybilt 18in saw

It sounds like it is flooding when you use the throttle, both are connected. Turn the idle back all the way until it dies, then try turning it a 1/4 turn the other direction.

Did you replace the hoses? It only needs a pin hole. This is older than dirt! I can say that, I have a XXV. There should be an impulse line from the crankcase to the carb somewhere, it may be bad. Crank seals may be leaking. Maybe time to spring for a pressure diagnostic by your friendly local Stihl shop. HTH
