Question about Mitsubishi VS-5043 50" Rear Projection Television

2 Answers

Possible Convergence Hi, my 1997 VS-5043 will not stay locked in when doing advanced or 1st time setup convergence. The blue and the red both drift and the picture has a slight bow or curve. I have both the front and rear off the set and have lightly tapped around with a small wooden stick. I notice the 3 IC's to the right of the convergence module secured to a heatsink,and have read that these go bad. If they are defective which ones should I change and If not that then I would love any suggestions. Thanks for the help

    Would like to clarify that the picture, even after it warms up, never gets better. Attached is an example for your analysis. I just want to double check before I pull the circuit board out. Thanks.

If this problem happened all at once, replace the Convergence IC's as you still may have capacitors going bad in this set of this age, but these IC's are for sure bad from the picture you posted.

I would suspect you have several capacitors drifting out of tolerance as they warm up. When checking for these, also make sure to change The value Of C813 (33uf 16v) To (10uf 50v) if it hasn't been done already. You'll need a technican with a capacitor meter and ESR tester to find the marginal capacitors. I doubt that any of your STK packs (IC's) on your convergence module are defective. I'm also assuming that the tapping with the wooden stick didn't change anything, otherwise a bad solder connection could be the culprit.

Mitsubushi VS-5043 Rear Projection,,, Replaced 3 Converrence IC's. Recovered green color. Red color is bowed. Cannot move red crosshais in convergence set up. Is their a way to reset? Could something else...

There are a few low value 1-watt flameproof resistors in the convergence yoke circuits. They typically range from 1 to 3 ohms. An open resistor will cause the respective color to be non-responsive. Also chack that you have the convergence yokes re-connected to the correct connectors on the board.

Good Day, Hazardsneon;
No, one portion of an IC could fail, but don't replace the one that failed, replace both. Good Luck, big IRISH.

First thing a tech would do is solder around Convergence amps then check to see if you can align by menu then if can not. Change amps and maybe resistors.

Convergence IC

The convergence IC's are black in color with white lettering on them and will start with STK. These IC's will be standing up and be about 2" X3" in diameter. These IC's will also be mounted up against a large metal device called a heat sink. good Luck
