LUMIX DMC-FX3 was dropped. The lens no longer will go in & out

My son is IN LOVE with this camera. He received it as an 11th yr. birthday present but...he dropped it yesterday and the lens will not go in and out anymore. Can it be fixed?

I live in Kailua Kona Hawaii. There are NO service centers here at all. Do you know of someone who is reputable that we can send the camera to for repairs?

  • jozak1 Nov 26, 2008

    the following place:
    Hawaiian Camera Supply
    74-5614 Palani Rd
    Kailua Kona, Hawaii, 96740
    Phone: (808) 326-7355

does NO CAMERA REPAIR...but, thanks for trying

Neither of these places (which are the same place) does camera repair. They say there is no one on the island.

Just so you might understand...I had a Right Temperal Lobe aneurysm / brain surgery..etc and now, cannot successfully find answers the way I used to. I guess if there was a reputable repair shop in the state of hawaii that anyone knows about that might help...

It is easiest to send it in to the company for a repair.
If you open the camera, try to fix the lens problem, and can't find the problem, or cannot fix it, not only is the camera still broken, but the warranty is void, and you can no longer send the camera in.

Since you live in Hawaii, and have no service center close to you, check the website at Panasonic (www.panasonic.com) then click the "service" tab, then go through the steps.

You can send it directly to the manufacturer and they can fix it for you but it may cost more than buying a new camera depending on what is broken. You could also try opening the camera up and seeing if you can manually get the lens to work. Most likely a gear is jammed. Before sending it to the manufacturer, it you decide to, make sure you call them first ( a number should be with the paperwork ) and see what they say about the costs first. If you need anything else, please let me know and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

The only option to have the camera repaired is to ship it to the nearest camera repair shop.

Yes it can , so if you take it to your local qualified service center I am sure they can have it repaired for you in a pretty decent amount of time
the cost of these type of repairs will depend on what has to be replaced, but I would check around to see if they can give you an aproximent repair pricefor the problem on the camera

have you tried to call panasonic to see if you could send it to the or where one of there closes service centers are that you could send it to?

tell them your situation and how much you like thier camera and you want to get it repaired by them or thier qualified service centers , and they just might do a little more than tell you where to send it to.

  • jason Nov 24, 2008

here is a service center in hawaii Panasonic Service Centers. Panasonic Customer Care Plan (extended warranty) ... Aiea, Hawaii 96701. Phone (808) 488-1996.

  • jason Nov 29, 2008

there looks like a tiny screw on the back by the menu and screen( not sure if there is one on yours) , sides will then have to be split apart

then a couple of srews will be holding an electronic board for the front control and motor for the lens movement

you will have to look very carefully to see what has gone wrong with the mechanism that moves the lens and make sure the motor is correctly situated

  • jason Nov 29, 2008

sorry, there are two screws on each side also that will have to be unscrewed

It can be fixed, you will need to open it to determain the cause of the lens not opening. It may be a gear that broke or is stuck.

The card section of the camera must be cracked or damaged due to fallen. First option is to get repair from any expert, Second option is that you want to get the pictures present in your memory stick. for this you can get you snaps to put your card in a CARD READER and save it at you computer. In market various card readers are available with very low price. Buy one that suits yous memory stick.

Remove lens

GOT IT!!! I had the same problem. Took all of the screws out of the thing and disconnected the PCB. That allowed me to take the Lenses unit out. Once I did that, dismantle the Phillips screws from the rear of the lens and pull the lens apart. I found a Little White speck of dust on the Sensor. Took that off, put it all back together and it’s like New!! Chuffed. Hope you have as much Luck as I Did. :D
