Sending to a file setup

I need to send to a specific file instead of to an email address. Can you tell me how to to this?? The file was set up before the machine was moved and we lost the info. Is there anyway to retrieve deleted phone books?

No, you can't retrieve deleted phonebooks so far as I'm aware but probably you're not referring to phonebooks because there probably is no phone. But sending to a file should be quite easy. Now, as you've posted on a Canon thread, I hope you are referring to a canon, a clc or irc. If this is the case then all you do when scanning your document is in the top right hand corner where you will, by default, see 'email' you can use the drop down menu to select 'file'. Now, you will then be able to use the down arrow keys on the main display to search your network for the relevant 'shared' folder and select it. Remember, the folder must be 'shared' for the canon to see and select it and there must be no conflicting firewalls. If passwords have been set up for network access the machine will prompt you to enter it where necessary. Once you have arrived at the3 destination folder you can scan your document to it. You can set up your address book in the same way so you don't have to go through this whole procedure everytime.

How to scan pictures to email

You cannot scan pictures directly to email.
Scan the photo and save the photo as a JPG file.
Open your email program, setup the email and address to your friend and then attach the scanned JPG file to this email before sending it.

SMTP2Go provides an SMTP server that authenticates senders based on their 'from' email address, meaning that it works with fax machines that are unable to send an SMTP username or password.
Two examples of SMTP setup procedures for popular Sharp fax machines are below:
Sharp UX-B800SE and UX-D1200SE Broadband Fax SMTP setup In the 'Network Settings' area, enter smtp2go.com as the SMTP server, and UNCHECK the box 'POP before SMTP'. Try entering either port 2525, 25, or 587 as the outgoing SMTP port. Then, make sure you are sending 'from' an email address that is registered with SMTP2Go.
See a sample screenshot from the UX-B800SE fax below (click on it to enlarge):

Please note that Gmail's SMTP server doesn't work, as it not only requires a username/password, but it also requires that SSL/TLS is used.
Please note: some fax machines may still have a problem sending - if this is the case, use the IP address of 207.58.142.213 instead of smtp2go.com as the SMTP server.
SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "SMTP server to use with Sharp fax machines (UX-B800SE and UX-D1200SE)", url: "http://www.smtp2go.com/blog/smtp-server-to-use-with-sharp-fax-machines-ux-b800se-and-ux-d1200se/" }); ShareThis
Do not understand what you are asking

It is saying that you have not set up one specific email address and program through your control panel of your pc for the printer to use and send email to. you can set up your email address yourself through the control panel. If you need help locating the incoming and outgoing pop3 or other account settings do a search on the internet with the name of the email provider you wish to use . they publish the incoming and outgoing server on the internet for each email provider.

I am trying to figure out how to use my Brother MFC-8440 scanner. I would like to use it to scan documents to email out. When I go to Brother.com and look at the direction book, it doesn't have directions...

It is part of the Network User's Guide (section 10) and the Software User's Guide (section 3 for a PC using Windows, Section 8 for network scanning), not the User's Guide. The directions below are for XP and Win2K primarily. Slight changes may exist with other OS versions. (Full software is not available for Win7 so the buttons on the unit will not work. You will need to launch scans from the computer only. You can use Windows Paint or Fax and Scan without needing third party software. Then attach the file to an email either in the email software or by right clicking on the file and choosing Send to Mail Recipient.)

For either use, put the document face down on the glass or face up in the ADF.

If you use a directly connected computer, you need to set the destination for the Scan to E-mail in the Control Center (section 4-4 in the Software User's Guide). Open this program and make sure the correct machine is in the drop-down menu. This program needs to be running to hear the buttons being pressed. Click on E-mail to set which program will get the scanned document as an attachment for your e-mail. You can also set the resolution and type of attachment. If you do not want to use available file formats, you will need to scan in PaperPort (or other software) and then use that to attach the file to the e-mail. Then click Scan to launch the scan from the unit. Hit Set when ready to send.

If you have the unit set up on the network, then you can enter the LAN setup in the Front Panel (or a browser). Hit Menu 6 (and then the appropriate number for the next feature), such as TCP/IP, DHCP or Static IP (these are under 1), SMTP, POP3, Mail Address (Menu 6 2). Setup the Scan to email with Menu 6 7 1 for color and Menu 6 7 2 for black and white.

This automatically sends the item to the email server or PDF as either a PDF or JPEG. Then you need register the PC that will get the file to the unit, if you use scan to email (PC). (Your version of Windows will matter for exactly where the information is: Control Panel > Scanners and Cameras or Control Panel > Printers and Other Hardware > Scanners and Cameras.) Right click on the icon for the unit and select Properties to see the Network Properties box. Go through all of this set up including the Scan To Button. Then the Control Center will launch the e-mail program when it "hears" you press Scan, select Scan to Email, press Set, then choose PC and press Set again. (or select the destination PC which has e-mail access and press Set again). Scanning will start.

If you have set the POP3 and SMTP servers and the unit can directly access them, then you can scan to e-mail and enter the recipient address. Press Scan, select Scan to Email, press Set, choose Email Server and Press Set again. Adjust the scan quality as desired pressing Set at each step. Once you go through all of the layers, the LCD screen will prompt you for the recipient's email address. Then press Start.

I hope this helps.

1) If you're actually scanning to an email address, make sure your SMTP email server information in the copier's web page is correct.

If you are using names instead of IP addresses, also make sure your DNS server IP's are correct.

2) If you're scanning to create the fake email set up by Sharp Network Scanner tool, the connection info in your copier is old and needs to be refreshed.

From the computer you're trying to scan to, right click on the Network Scanner Tool icon in the tray, go to Automatic Profile Update, and select Update Now. If you have no tray icon, reboot your computer.

If your copier is set up to store names instead of IP addresses, make sure your DNS information is correct in the web page.

Ricoh Aficio 1075 - SMTP error message

To use the scan to email function on your copier you need some settings from your internet provider (email setting specifically). Go into Outlook options and get your SMTP server, user name and password.

On your copier you need to change under User tools, system setting and file transfer and put these settings in. As long as your machine is set up for scan to folder thats all you should need.
