Purple should be on "C".
The fan motor may be destroyed now. Switch the wire and see if it keeps running or not.

SOURCE: 561CJ060-a bryant air conditioner two control wires disconnected

Sorry if I am answering this 2x. If it is just A/C then the red and white probably go to the coil for the contactor that cuts on the fan and compressor. If it is a heat pump then they probably go to a circuit board. Red to R terminal and White to W1 terminal. Let me know what you find.

Connecting protect condenser fan motor 5 wire to dual capacitor. old fan motor has 3 wires. which wires go where?

Wiring a fan motor to a dual capacitor, the leads with the stake on's go to the fan and common.
Usually the brown with white strip goes to the middle or "C" terminal and the plain brown goes to the fan or "F" terminal the other three are power and usually use the black and red connected to the fan relay.

I bought a replacement Dayton electric condenser fan motor. The original GE had 3 wires. L1 L2 & the fan capacitor wire. The Dayton replacement model 4MB21 has 4 wires, L1 L2 and 2 capacitor wires tan...

The tan/white wire can be insulated/capped and not used. Use and ohmmeter to take a resistance reading between the tan/white wire and L1 & L2. There will be no resistance between the tan/white wire and one of the others. This will be the common wire. Connect it to one side of the contactor. Connect the tan wire to the fan terminal on the contactor and the other wire to the common terminal on the capacitor (that is if you have a 3 terminal capacitor, if you have a 2 terminal capacitor connect tan to one side and the other wire to the other). Then connect the other side of the contactor to the common terminal on the capacitor (on a 2 terminal capacitor connect the contactor to the side that doesn't have the tan wire on it).

Wire an AC fan motor

Look at the schematic on the new motor , but i think if the 2 purple wires go each one to each side of the capacitor, the black to line and you need to connect the other line which Im 99% sure is the whte wire which is the only one left.Remember you need 220v between the fan motor lines for it to work.

Trying to install a fan motor for my outside ac unit replacement motor has 5 wires on it. my old on had only 3 driving me nuts

Your old moter had three wires. Common High and brown for capacitor. This one sounds like a two speed. Dont worry Now you have two brown wires for you capacitor instead of one. Tape off brown wire with white strip. Connect other brown to cap. You should have a white or yellow for common wire and black for high. Tape of the other extra wire and wire in like the three wire. Fan does not work.

I'm working on one right now and I believe it's the capacitor. It's hard to find this capacitor. So far I've tryed 3 HVAC suppliers and none have this rare capacitor. First UNPLUG THE UNIT. Take the phillips screws out of each side in the front. Then take the 3 screws out of the face of the control. There are 3 white common wires and a dark brown compressor wire and a light brown fan wire. Take the 1/4 inch screw out and unplug the wires and find another one.

Wiring compressor

The two terminal cap is only for the new fan motor. Connect the compressor wire back where you found it, on the 3 terminal cap. It's the terminal marked, "herm". The "common" terminal on the 3 terminal cap must still be connected to one side of the 220 power at the contactor. One side of the 220 goes to the common on the compressor. The other side of the 220 goes to the run winding on the compressor AND the common terminal on the 3 terminal capacitor.
