It is either the inverter board or the bulb

If it looks pink in color than it is the bulb and that can be quite the intensive project to replace

If it is the inverter board than that is not so bad and you can pick up an inverter board on eBay usually for around $10 to $20 and that usually installs right under the LCD screen (usually screwed to the LCD screen)

The inverter board is what powers the light bulb the data cable is totally separate function.
If you can see data on the screen with a flashlight but there is absolutely no light coming from the screen at all ever than it is probably just the inverter board

But there is a possibility that you could order the inverter board and have it turn out to be the bulb and if that is the case then unless you are very comfortable taking apart laptops then maybe a new screen would be best since you practically have to take apart the LCD to change the bulb.

But screen cost around 100 to 150 on eBay so if you decide to do that then might as well try for a deal like this: (I just spotted this on eBay and it is for entire new top half of laptop with glossy screen and inverter board wire harness and all for the same price or less than just the screen http://cgi.ebay.com/HP-dv1000-Pavilion-14-1-BrightView-Glossy-LCD-screen_W0QQitemZ310102538774QQihZ021QQcategoryZ31569QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting

That is guaranteed to solve your problem for sure.

HP Pavilion dv5000. Black screen. I can hear it load up & momentarily I can see even put in my password but the screen is faint then the black screen appears. Help me please

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

When i put on the power on,all lights comes on,but the screen is black

Hook a spare monitor to the video output of the laptop, if okay! the problem is in the LCD screen on the laptop, cause! a bad inverter board " most likely " or the back light behind the screen display. If both show the same issue it is the video graphics card that is part of the motherboard.

I have a HP DV4 1114NR. When it powers on, all light come on but a black screen. THe power light and batt charge light flashes. How to resolve this and get it to boot up?

It could be forced into "Sleep Mode" by USB or other ancilliary devices. Ensure there is no CD/DVD in the drive, no Lan connection and no USB items, especially modems, plugged in and try again.

The screen remains black when computer is turned

maybe a hardware problem, on booting the pc, move the screen to every angle to see if there is a connection problem.
If so, then use your warranty if you have one.

The screen on my HP dv1000 laptop doesn't work anymore.

Hi there.
The problem is the inverter or the inverter coil, possibly even a loose plug.
The inverter is located under the laptop screen so you will have to remove the bezel cover (plastic screen surround), it protected by a plastic covering, all you have to do is make sure there is no power to the laptop, re-seat the plugs and check the ribbon cable behind the screen, turn the laptop on to see if the screen comes on, if it does put the bezel back on and your done, if it doesn't then the inverter has gone and you have to take the laptop in for repair.
If you still have warranty on the laptop, don't touch it and send it back for repair.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

well seems like the lcd has lost or the video card has an issue easy way to find out is to hook it up to a monitor and if the pitcure comes out fine then its your lcd screen and if it appears the same then its your video card.
