Question about Philips 17MD250V 17.1 in. LCD TV/DVD Combo

Open Question

I found the bad components, where to get them? Is this a Samsung?

I have identified the defective components a dc-dc converter and a 24v diode. the diode is not much of a problem but the chip is not available anywhere. The mfr would have to have them avail. Is this unit a samsung?

Where is capacitor located on TV

There are several.
You should be identifying the four large components
- Power board
- Logic board
- Timing Control (TCON) board
- LED inverter driver board

99% the capacitors you are looking to identify for a power related issue on the power board.

Turns on immediately turns off

check for shorted component parts at power supply board like bridge type diode and FET transistor. if those are good, disconnect the connectors that supply going to inverter board and then turn on the tv unit if the light indicator at front panel stay and 24v supply doesn't drop which mean the inverter board was the problem of suddenly turn off.

My Samsung ln40a530p screen looks good and normal for a few minutes right when I turn it on. Then it gets real dark and not as clear and I can see images burned in the corner from a channel that was on...

That symptoms have problem in back lights supply. The back lights have drive board that energies the back lights, the drive board have 24v dc from the power supply. So if the 24V dc output of the power supply have faulty because of leak capacitor, the back light drive board is did not oscilate to energies the back light. So the problem is either in power supply the 24v dc output, the drive board or the connector of the back lights in the drive board is loosen.

When i plug my vizio in the power comes on, but the actual tv wont come on. what should i do?

Check the power supply to see if a capacitor in the standby power section has gone bad. First, do a visual inspection of the electrolytic capacitors (metal cylinders with plastic sleeves around them - the size, voltage, temperature rating and model ID are printed on the sleeve). If the sleeve is discolored by heat, the metal top is bulging or leaking, or the bottom of a capacitor appears to be blowing out, the capacitor is probably bad. Sometimes there will be several bad capacitors; I just finished a TV that needed thirteen replaced!

However, a capacitor may look good and still be defective. If you can identify the standby voltage (usually marked 5V SB), measure it and see if it is the rated voltage (5 Volts). If it reads half of the rated voltage, the first capacitor after the 5 Volt diode is bad. (The parts are connected in this order: transformer, diode, first capacitor to ground, coil, second capacitor to ground, connector. This list does not include the voltage regulation feedback components.)

Show horizontal line.i replaced the ic checked all resistance & fuses but still fault is there

good day sir
if you already replace a new vertical I.C. there's a problem with the supply of your I.C. 24v dc.
I give you some steps for D.I.Y. troubleshooting
first, remove the cover of your TV loosening all screw at the back
secondly, look for the part number of the vertical I.C
thirdly, click this site to identify the pin connection of the I.C to determine the supply.
next, type the part number of I.C.then go down and click the view P.D.F...after that, click download to view... adobe reader is needed to download and see files.its free
fourthly, after you see the pin configuration, check the supply voltage of I.C 24vdc..if the supply is too low or totally dead, check the print line of PCB to find where the supply came from its usually found on secondary of fly-back..check all resistor and diode near to the secondary of fly-back
and finally if done all process replace a new spare parts if you found the defective one
thank you and good luck

How can I operate my LG 26LE5300 LED LCD TV in my motorhome the most direct way possible (i.e....without an inverter)? This low power (40-50 watts) TV has an external brick to convert 120 AC to it's...

1) You need to look at the output current rating (AMP) of this AC to 24dc adapter, this 24vdc adapter is a regulated switching power supply that will maintain 24vdc output up the maximum current rating and also has shutdown circuits if the over current draw is detect and also if the output voltage goes up beyond 24vdc to protect the load (TV).

2) To use 12vdc to 24vdc DC-DC booster, it should have the following spec:

A) The output current rating should be at least 20% higher than the load requires to give its head room.
B) It must have regulated output that will maintain the 24vdc when the input (12vdc) will vary from 10vdc ~16vdc or higher since your batteries will not maintain exact 12vdc all the time.
C) It must have good protection circuits that will protect it self from reverse polarity connections, shorted output protection, over voltage output protection.
D) It should provide AC ripple spec on the 24vdc output, it should be in the milli-volt range (you will always get AC ripple riding on top of DC when you rectify the AC into DC).

These are the minimum requirement for your DC to DC booster, which you need to protect your TV and your motor home from burning down.
I hope I explain it OK to you.

Please leave rating if it helps.

Or just make sure to use caps with low ESR, 105c, high ripple current, long life rating such as PANASONIC FM or FC series.

I had a near lighting strike that took out the cable and the tv

You have to check the DC voltages. First check across the high voltage electrolyte capacitor to know whether you are getting DC. Check the capacitor DC rating and you should get the the voltage less than the rating by 30% less.

If no DC present check the diodes or Diode bridge. If these are OK check the SMPS circuit components.

Fuse is ok no 24v or other outputs

Your switched Mode Power Supply has failed... Check the output from the bridge rectifier, check the Controller IC, ALL the Electrolytic Capacitors, Do a "Dry" "Diode" multimeter test on all discrete components. Check for voltage on the pins of the DC side of the fly-back transformer too. Check for shorts.

Fuse and power supply look ok to the eye slight static sound on audio tiny flash intermitent inright corner on video, any clues? power diods check good ,nothing looks hot or burnt There is a second board...

Your power supply on the dc output should have the floowing DC voltages, 5v, 12v, and 24v. Just start probing the connectors of the power supply. 24v is needed for the backlights inverter board, 12v for sounds, 5v for logic board.
