motorola Q9c has headset icon on the main display and people cannot hear me or I cannot hear them. The only way I can communicate is with the speakerphone turned on.
-   Yup, same here. Looked through the manual and it doesnt even show the headphone icon or how to turn it on or off....Sprint store told me that I will have to replace my phone.

I had this problem with a used phone I bought and I just fixed it 5 minutes ago.
Chances are you have some gunk inside the headset plug on the top of the phone. First power off the phone and pull the battery just to be safe. Use a bright light and a small pin, get the small pin under each of the 3 copper/gold contacts inside the receptacle on the phone and give the spring contact a little flick sideways and upwards. This should help dislodge it from the internal shunt which is telling the phone that a headset it connected. Next give the hole a shot with some compressed air from a can or air compressor. Replace battery and power up.
If you're lucky like I was the phone will power back on with no icon on the screen, and the ear speaker will be back to normal. Good luck!
