Question about HP ScanJet 5300C Flatbed Scanner
An HP scanjet 5300c connected to a networked Windows XP-based workstation via USB link.
The administrator downloaded & installed the drivers and the Scanjet works under the Admin account.
When a restrict-privileged user logs on and tries to scan, the Scanjet flags the "device being accessed by another application" error message and quits.
Using [Start>>My Computer>>Properties>>Hardware>>Devive Manager] to debug, it shows the ScanJet is enabled and working. In [View>>Show hidden devices], it shows no competing device that tries to access the scanner. The drivers were uninstalled and re-installed without any luck.
Using [Start>>Control panel>>Scanners and Cameras] to run the Scanner, the restrict-privileged user is able to run it without any error.
Please help resolving the mysterious scanjet 5300c's access issue.
Most likely the destination folder for the scanning is a shared folder with limited rights. As the administrator, reset the permissions for that folder or redirect the software to a common folder with read/write/creation etc... access.
Also, make sure you are using the HP provided drivers and not those from Microsoft.
