I have a sony pslx250h turntable and just bought a new needle for it. The problem I'm having is that the needle won't fit on it right. Am I missing a piece or something? What is there is a rectangular silver end on the arm. Please help me!

Re: Needle replacement...missing part?
To replace the stylus (N-6516 from your Sony dealer)
1.Turn off the amplifier
2. Protect the stylus with the stylus cover (it flips down 90 degrees)
3. Grasp the stylus holder (exposed when cover was flipped down) and pull it away from the cartridge body
4. Insert the stylus by pushing it in to the cartridge receptacle. Flip the stylus protector up.

The bit in red in your photo is the stylus cartridge and holds the needle/stylus. This part should come off and you replace the whole red cartridge with the new cartridge. In your photo it looks like the needle is missing. See here for replacement: http://www.lpgear.com/product/RCAS841662.html
It is difficult working upside down to replace a stylus. if you have a small mirror handy, such as a makeup mirror, place it under the cartridge and shine a bright light on the underpart of the cartridge. You may reveal what is preventing the new stylus from seating.
Pretty simple fix. Remove the mat, remove the turntable, install new belt on bottom of turntable hub. Place turntable back onto spindle. rotate turntable so you can see motor pulley. Stretch the belt from turntable hub over motor pulley, replace mat, enjoy.
Most likely your stylus (needle) is bent, broken or missing. Check to see if it's there or not. If it's broken or damaged, you will need to replace it. Under the cartridge, you should see a small arm that has the actual diamond on the end of it. If the arm is there, but the diamond is missing off the end, the arm won't stay in the groove and will instead skip across the record to the middle.
You need a headshell unit (which is needle etc for the front of arm)
also the felt pad.. also known as a slipmat, you can pick up at dj supplies shops or on ebay..
I need a counterweight myself as my ION turntable also had missing parts when I got it as a gift.
I found a headshell on ebay which is perfect...Turntable Cartridge and Headshell Black DJ DISCO USB on eBay (end time 08-Sep-09 00:11:01 BST)
I havent yet found a counterweight..I hope I will!
Hope this helps in some way..
Go to esupport.sony.com and type in your turntable model, PS LX250H. The "H" is important. Available is the complete manual, and a separate publication just on removing the stylus and setting EQ. Basically, swing the protector bar down over the needle, and snap the entire (mine is beige) unit down from the tone arm, then pull forward. I'm still shopping for the replacement, frankly.
